sidebar widget stopped working
-
Hi there, my blog is kindle.wordpress.com. A while back I included a new sidebar widget, from schmap.com (see widget creater here: http://www.schmap.com/tools/schmap_picker.shtml). I’m not sure when it happened, but now it won’t show up and instead shows just a text link. When I tried to put the code back in, wordpress saved only the text, and not the widget itself. I didn’t need to have access to css editing to first put the widget in, and I haven’t made any changes to it.
Any idea what I need to do to fix this?

I can see that this is a “player” of some sort although I do not wish to register just to see the code. If the code you placed in the text widget was for a form, an iframe, an embed, or if it contained any javascript then the wordpress programming will have stripped it out to maintain security. If not you will be able to simply go through the process again and it will display. I have had images “fade” in the past and have re-done them.
If you use backticks at the beginning and end (one key left of the number one on the keyboard) you will be able to post the code in a comment box here in the forum see we can see it. -
The code had iframe but she says she put it a while back on her blog but now it’s not showing. Hmmm.

Thanks a lot nosy.:)

iframes are a no go. They compromise security and here we at wordpress.com we are all blogging on a multi-user platform so that’s not likely to change. It just took some time for the wordpress programming to locate the iframe and strip it out. I’m sorry to say that the same thing will happen over and over again. If this kind of embed is an essential for you then your best bet would be to either self host a free blog template from wordpress.org or to hire a web host to do that for you.
