Sidebar widgets…can you change which you use on homepage

  I am using the widgets for my sidebar, but there are a few of those widgets that I dont want on my homepage only, which is a static page. So, I dont want categories widget and recent comments on the homepage sidebar, but I want those on all of my other pages. Is there a work around for this, while still using the widgets. I dont want to recode any of the main template files, other than add something to the functions.php file. Possible? I can’t seem to find any info on this.
