  how can I turn off that annoying sidebar (with the goal and number of posts) that displays after publish every new post?

  You can turn Instant Post Feedback off from your Dashboard, at Users, Personal Settings. http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2011/12/12/get-instant-feedback-when-you-publish/
