Sidebar/Page Search Workaround
-
I know that the WP.com search box ignores sidebar links and Page content. I’m wondering if anyone has figured out a workaround for this. (Without Googling
site:blog.wordpress.com, etc.) Is there a way to tag the links in your sidebar? Maybe a different search widget? It would be so nice if our readers could search our page content directly from our own blog.
Thanks! -
This would take either a plugin (which is not allowed here at wordpress.com) or editing of the underlying program files (which is also not allowed).

Google indexes blog Pages as well as blog posts. And, the way to be sure your Page content gets indexed is to periodically write posts with links back to the Pages in them.

Ahhh write posts with links back to the Pages. That’s a good idea. I saw that Google indexed my Pages, but I was hoping to be able to search for all my blog’s content, including Page content, through the search box on my blog. I think if I post about my page content, I should be able to get what I’m looking for when I use my search widget.
I’ll give it a shot. Thank you.
Am I really out of options when it comes to searching the sidebar? Can’t tag the links or anything without a plugin or editing the file?

We cannot use individual plugins on our blogs here at wordpress.com and we cannot edit our templates. This is a multiuser blogging platform so if you could then every blog with the same theme would be likewise changed. http://faq.wordpress.com/2005/10/27/can-i-upload-my-own-plugins/

I see. I would be able to do this if I ran my blog on a different host though. And that takes me over into WordPress.org territory. Got it.
Thank you both. Accurate and timely….good stuff.

Yes, you could achieve what you want by hiring a web host and downloading free wordpress.com software. And, you’re welcome.
Best wishes :)
