Sight theme: part of permalink on static Home page removed & affects slider

  • Unknown's avatar

Sight theme permalink for static home page missing part of permalink …./home/… after switching pages and back to home.
affects the slider and the slider disappears but then the slider shows up on the blog page.
I delete the home page, create a new home page, reset setting for static page = home, posts = blog.
Reset static page back to home, posts = blog, because when I delete the home page the settings for the static page = home and the posts page = blog are removed. Once I reset settings, create a new home page, adjust the menu, the slider works fine
then click on another page from one of the two menu option.s
i then click on home again, the slider is gone, not working
I check the permalink on home page again the permalink has changed. the section …./home/… is removed again. continuous loop delete home page, create home page, set static and posts page setting …….
    please advise site = debtstsite.wordpress.com

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

debtstsite.wordpress.com is not private. i made it visable but not to have search engines locate it easily. does debraamichelleservices.wordpress.com have to be public?

  • Unknown's avatar

    it already says

    is this correct?

i was using safari but this morning after locating the permalink issue i switch now to firefox browser. still does the same removes the …../home/ from the permalink. seems to be only affecting home pages not other pages. hmmmmm.

I cannot access your blog. It is private.

Let’s start with the fact that all we can display in the featured posts slider is Posts with featured images and not Pages. To create a custom menu requires creating two Pages and it does not sound like you are clear on that.

This is your Home page URL http://debramichelleservices.wordpress.com/

You have two choices on any blog
    (1) All posts on the front page.
    (2) A static front page and all posts on a different page.

By default the front page of your blog displays all published posts (not pages) in reverse chronological order, with the most recently published post on top. That is for the convenience of your returning visitors.

However, if you do not want all the posts to show on the front page, then you can create a static front page called for example “Welcome” for your site and a “Blog” page for posts.

To do that create two pages first http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/

After you do that you go to > Settings > Reading and make the designation change and click “save changes”.
    A static page (select below)
    Front page:
    Posts page:

    The guide is here http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/

Also note that if you have two pages titled Home then you create a custom menu https://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/ and add only the Home page https://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/#adding-pages that you want to display in it.

This is not browser related issue. It’s an operator error issue because you aware not comprehending what to do to successfully create a static front and how to do it. Hopefully, you will understand my instructions.

ok I just make debramichelleservices.wordpress.com. public.

however there are many sites under debramichelleservices.wordpress.com

the site in question is debtstsite.wordpress.com

i have other sites where the sliders are working great. just this Sight theme. please note the home page permalink removes the…./home/…. after switching to another menu option.

will wait for assistance. thank you

You will also benefit from reading the detailed theme description page here https://wordpress.com/themes/sight/ and noticing that Sight has two custom menus.

    Custom Menus
Sight comes with two custom menus, one in the header (Secondary Navigation) and the other just below the header area (Primary Navigation). The Secondary Navigation menu in the header only supports one menu level. https://wordpress.com/themes/sight/

  • Unknown's avatar

so should the Home be on the primary menu level not the secondary?

  • Unknown's avatar

The choice is yours to make.

  • Unknown's avatar

i move home to the primary menu level and removed it from the secondary level. will see if this fixes the slider.

  • Unknown's avatar

The slider is for featured Posts, not all Posts and definitely not for Pages. It’s for featured posts with featured images of a specific size that are marked as sticky posts. Go to https://wordpress.com/themes/sight/

Quick Specs (all measurements in pixels)
    2. Featured images in the sticky posts slider are 290 in height with a flexible width (maximum width is 640).

    3. All other featured images are 290 width, and 290 in height. These images are displayed on displayed on posts on the home page, on archive pages, and on the search results page.

    See here https://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/post-visibility/#sticky-posts

moving home to the primary menu level and removing it from the secondary level did not fix the permalink issue for the home page

i think i understand posts, features, sliders and pages. they are working fine for oxygen, sketch themes just not sight theme. maybe i am having an off day and need to take a 40 break from the sight theme debtstsite.wordpress.com

has anyone been able to get on to the debtstsite.wordpress.com and check what is going on?

i will be placing all sites back on private soon if no one is able to determine the issue with the permalink. thanks

This thread is tagged for Staff. It’s the weekend and what’s required is your patience as Staff work through all forum threads tagged for their attention and through all email support tickets in chronological order based on datestamps and timestamps – first posted first served, as would be expected.

How long it takes to clear the threads and support tickets depends on how many Happiness Engineers are working on them at any given point in time. It also depends on how complex the issues in each thread and ticket are are.

Please don’t bump your thread here by posting into it again because it’s not in your best interest to post to it after it has been tagged for Staff help. Doing that moves the timestamps forward and it takes longer to get a response.

thank you timethief for your assistance. i have placed the sites back to private and will wait for staff or myself to determine and fix the slider issue.
your probably right operator error. going to take a break. will wait for staff.

thank you again timethief for help.

You’re welcome. It’s the weekend so please be patient while waiting.

To the Happiness Team and members:
I have figured out what I needed.
    1. When you click on the site for the 1st time: a static home page appears, I wanted to have a slider. With the SIGHT theme, sliders appear on the Home/Blog page only. Work around, put images into a slide show so on the first time entering the site a slider show appears.
    2. Home menu option: clicking on this the Home/blog page appears with a slider, which is how the SIGHT theme is suppose to work. Then when click on another menu option and click on Home it continues to stay on the slider.

I wanted to get a slider on the initial first click static Home page but could not figure out a workaround so a slide show works fine.

If someone knows a workaround to have a slider not only on the home/blog page but on the 1st click that brings you to the static Home page please email me.

Thanks. Case resolved unless there is a way to get a slider showing on the static home page vs a slider on the Home/blog page.

I will keep this case unresolved for a couple days to see if staff or member can figure out an easier way to have a slider vs a slide show on the static Home page. After a couple days, I will set it to resolved.

I’m afraid the Sight theme will only display the slider you’re looking for when the front page is set to display your latest posts. If you set a static home page, the slider will not be displayed.

Home menu option: clicking on this the Home/blog page appears with a slider, which is how the SIGHT theme is suppose to work. Then when click on another menu option and click on Home it continues to stay on the slider.

I’m not sure I fully understand your question here. Your home page is currently set as Home Cover. I’m not seeing the slider on any other page than “Blog.” Are you seeing the slider elsewhere?

Case resolved unless there is a way to get a slider showing on the static home page vs a slider on the Home/blog page.

I’m afraid there is not with this particular theme. Some of our other themes have a separate home page that utilizes a slider like Creative Portfolio:

    https://creativeportfoliodemo.wordpress.com/

Would one of those themes work?
