Sight Theme Slider Not Adding or Removing Articles
-
Sight in question: https://queticostreetjournal.wordpress.com/
Theme in question: Sight themeI’ve read a bunch of other examples of this situation, but I haven’t been able to draw an answer from any of the past times of this happening to people.
I added my first article to the slider no problem, with a 290 x 290 picture displayed. It’s fantastic and I love it. Unfortunately, It won’t let me add a second article to the slider, despite everything being the same but the contents of the article. Additionally, it won’t even let me take the first article out of the slider, even when I remove the sticky and featured image.
I would like to get this solved quickly.

Consult your detailed theme description page at https://wordpress.com/themes/sight/
Featured Slider
Sight displays up to 30 of your latest sticky posts that have featured images in a prominent slider on the blog page. To add a post to the slider, mark it as sticky http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/post-visibility/#sticky-posts and give it a featured image. http://en.support.wordpress.com/featured-images/ -

What I discovered is that, to put an article on the slider, I have to set it as a sticky before I first post it.
To remove a sticky, I have to copy and paste the text, delete the article, and remake the article, not checking the sticky.
At this point, knowing how to add articles, I’m more concerned about removing articles without having to make their timestamp leap forward. Thoughts?

Yes, indeed and that’s exactly what this page states https://wordpress.com/themes/sight/ and it’s what I linked to and quoted at https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/sight-theme-slider-not-adding-or-removing-articles?replies=5#post-2637196

I’ll try to be clearer. The simply adding or removing the sticky isn’t working for me to put it in the slider. The only way it works is if, before I originally publish the article, I sticky it. I cannot go into edit and alter that.
There’s only a certain amount of articles you can put in the slider, and there’s only a certain amount I WANT in there. The problem is it doesn’t take the article out of the slider once I edit and remove the sticky, and if I want to add an article to the slider I have to delete it and make a duplicate, originally publishing it with the sticky on. I don’t want to have to bring old articles back as new articles just to add/remove them from the slider.
Hopefully that elaborates more on where I’m at now.

Hi @henrytwain

This sounds like it could be a bug. Right now I see just one sticky post, and only one post in the slider. Can you confirm that’s what you’re seeing as well?
If you had already removed the extra posts (deleting and republishing as non-sticky) can you let us know when you have a post there that needs to be removed? We’ll take a look.

I see that. Now I want to add the one with the green flag to the slider. That one has a sticky on it, but isn’t going up. Additonally, I’ve tried removing the one in the slider and it doesn’t work.
-
I can see it, but I we do recommend using an image that is at least 290px tall, as suggested in the theme documentation.
Also I currently see two sticky posts. Are you having trouble removing the sticky designation?
-
I think it’s just that it takes a while to take effect. I added something to the sticky and after a while it went on, and then I removed it and when I woke up in the morning it was removed from the slider.
Seems like you just need patience.

@henrytwain ah, here I’d assumed you were just figuring things out on your own before I could reply. :)
It could well be cached, in which case it would update on its own after the cache expires (often that’s within the hour.) I’m glad you’ve sorted this out!
