Sight Theme…Slider and Recent Posts! Arrrghhhh

Evening all,
Firstly I’m very new to WP and don’t exactly know what I’m doing most of the time, but I’m learning, so I guess that’s the main thing!
I apologise if I’ve used any of the wrong etiquette, but please bear with me, any help or advice greatly received.Within the sight theme, is it possible to have the slider moving away at the top but also a sort of Welcome page beneath? At the moment I have the slider showing my recent posts which is what I was after, but this also means I have a list of recent posts underneath. I’d like a web page rather than a blog and I’d like something that represents that. What am I doing wrong?

Thank you for your response Timethief, I have seen that page before. I wasn’t sure if what I originally asked was possible or not-is there any way that a front page can display both a slider and a static welcome message? WP is so vast and I can’t appear to find an answer. I assume that it is not possible in this case! Thank you for your time.
