  i get a prompt to sign in with my email address, and then I am told I cannot sign in with my email address but need some different sign-in name. can you help???

  You are signed in to WordPress.com right now. The site associated with the account you are currently logged in to hasn’t been updated in 6 years. Perhaps you need to log in to a different account to reach your unnamed site. What is the full URL of the site you’re looking for?

  If you want to create a totally new account different to fordburkhart here at WordPress.com you can but you’ll need to supply a different email address to do so. You can’t use the same email address for two different accounts here. You could delete this account and site and then the email address used would be available to be used again after 30 days but the actuall account name fordburkhart couldn’t ever be reused.
  If that isn’t what you want to do perhaps you could explain what you’re trying to achieve.

  Hi there,

  Sometimes if you sign in from a new browser or location, the login form will require you to enter your account username in addition to the email address, as an added security check.

  If you’re trying to log into the account you used to post here in another browser, you can see your username next to each of your replies, fordburkhart.

  If you’re trying to log into a different account, you’ll need to use that account’s unique username instead.
