I just got a newsletter I wanted to unsubscribe from. Turns out I have to login to my account before I could.

This seems like an awfully archaic practice, and a great way to have people go ‘screw this, I’ll mark them as spam instead then’. Also, it’s really really annoying.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

It’s not necessary to log in to unsubscribe from a WordPress.com email notifications. It is just much easier to do it while logged in, as then we don’t need the extra step to verify your email address. You can also do it directly from this page:

    Status

If you click the Settings tab on that page you can also block all subscription emails from us. Or, as you’re already logged in to post in this forum, you can do it much more easily from this page:

    https://wordpress.com/me/notifications/subscriptions

    Hey Kokkieh!
Thank you for your response! It seems I was wrong!

It would be great if the ‘unsubscribe’ link in the emails took me to the page you mention rather than the login page I suppose.

    Anyway, thanks!

  • There are two links: Unsubscribe and Manage Subscriptions. Both of those take me to the subscription management page if I click them whether I’m logged out or logged in.

Are those the links that you are trying to click?

I was clicking unsubsribe. When not logged in, it took me to the login page, rather than a page where I could unsubscribe. (After login, I was redirected to the manage subscriptions page tho)

  • It sounds like your we might be thinking you’re still logged in, and when you’re not we’re redirecting you. Clearing the cookies on your browser should fix that, should you want to dig deeper into this :)
