sign up page claims domain name is reserved, yet no wordpress.com site exists
-
hi, i really wanted to sign up with the url as “www.shollywood.wordpress.com” and when i go to register it… it says that the name has been “reserved” and doesn’t give me a time frame as to when it will be available again. this would be fine, however when i look to find shollywood.wordpress.com it says that the site doesnt exist, yet it just redirects me to the sign up page.
i saw someone had a similar problem here: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/reserved-blog-1?replies=16#post-412652which was later cleared up by staff, was wondering if you could please shed some light on this as i really want that username!
thank youuuu

When we register a username account the matching blog is reserved for our future use. It cannot be obtained by anyone other than the person who has registered the matching username account. If you own the matching username account and have lost your log-in information you can visit https://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword
and click the “need more help” link if necessary. -
Note that there is no “www” in any wordpress.com URL and that http://shollywood.wordpress.com doesn’t exist so it can be registered.

I just clicked on that link you provided and it said Did you mean to visit any of these blogs, instead
“shollywood.wordpress.com cannot be registered. Sorry, that site is reserved!”
How long can someone reserve an account for??

The address shollywood.wordpress.com cannot be registered. Sorry, that site is reserved! But you can sign up and choose another one.
There is no time-frame here at all. You cannot register that URL because you do not have the matching username account.
Setting that aside, you can register another blog with a similar name. http://en.support.wordpress.com/register-a-blog/
Or you can register a domain via a domain mapping upgrade and it will not matter what the underlying .wordpress.com address is.

Just because there is no blog connected to the shollywood account does not mean that it is not being used. Someone may use that account to access a private blog. Or it could be someone using it to access Jetpack.
