Signature in blog text

It would be very nice if I could attach a pre-defined signature to my posts, the same way it is done in email messages. It could seem unnecessary at first sight, but it would be yet another way of indicating post autorship straight on post text. This would at least minimize damages of posts and whole blogs stealing by bots, my signature would go together. It happened to my blog hosted in wordpress, it was fully copied to another address, and there is nothing I can do, except attaching my signature to all my posts. thanks.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Why don’t you use a theme that includes the author’s name?

There are also many, many things you can do about blog scrapers who steal your content. http://stolen.wordpress.com is the best source of information about that.

    This is one I like…

    – Copyright © 2008 Your Blog Name Here. This Feed is for personal non-commercial use only. If you are not reading this material in your news aggregator, the site you are looking at is guilty of copyright infringement. Please contact (email visible only to moderators and staff) so we can take legal action immediately.

I usually switch out “legal action” for something less silly.

The problem is, in order to be effective at all, it really has to be at the top of your post… which screws up your RSS Feed if its set on “partial”. So I’ve found something like the above text pasted into an image works great, and then it’s just a matter of copying and pasting the image HTML into each post. But anything you do is going to be a “peace of mind” fix only. There are no copyright cops online.

Most Sploggers and Blog Scrapers steal your material based on the tags and categories you use. Anytime I use the name of a medication as a category (Lithium) I can expect to get six or eight pinbacks from Blog Scrapers stealing my stuff.

Hope some of this helps. Good luck.

Thanks, guys. Today my last post was stolen again, but my “signature” is there, at the end of the post. At least, if anybody reads it through the end, he (she) will find the signature. What I think would be a very nice solution is WordPress providing us tools to add some kind of protection, like the signature and maybe some other textual protection. Cheers,

It’s actually Google and their Adsense program that’s most at fault. People get convinced they can make thousands of dollars by setting up Scraper and Splogger sites which steal our content and put Google ads beside them… and Google does very little to dissuade them.

You might want to put a hotlink back to your site somewhere in the notice you’re using… just to have a little control over their site.
