Significant increase in Spam

  I’m seeing a significant increase in spam over the last few days on my blog: http://mypunchbowl.wordpress.com.

  Anyone else having issues? Is there anything I can do?

  Where are they showing up? Are they in your Akismet queue? Are they making it to your blog? Need specifics please.

  Are you going in and marking them as spam? That’s how the system learns.

  Yes I am. But so far today I’ve gotten about 20 and marked them as spam. It’s getting pretty frustrating. I’ve also gone as far as to require moderation for all comments. I’m pretty surprised (and disappointed) that I’m getting this much spam with WordPress/Askimet. Other ideas or suggestions?

  Stick the IP addrress into your Dashboard -> Options -> Discussion -> Comment Moderation or Comment Blacklist (if you feel comfortable with doing that) box and send in a copy via feedback on Monday morning.

  I had that problem on two old posts, so I simply closed comments on them. If they seem to be targeting a particular post, that might just do it.
