Everything seems to be in order and I am ready to start on my new site but when I log in I am taken to a start your new site page. It wants me to transfer my domain name away from my current registrar and I can’t progress any further. I just want to access the admin dashboard and start getting creative – Help please.

You can get to the Admin dashboard by adding /wp-admin to the end of your site’s url (e.g.: example.wordpress.com/wp-admin).
If you own a domain name at a different registrar and you want to use it for this site, you can map it by following these instructions:

suechance1945 – Please confirm for me which site you are trying to work on. I want to make sure you’re set up using WordPress.com rather than running a stand alone WordPress installation, I can make that confirmation with the site address. Thanks!
