Simple Membership not so simple

Reading your blog here https://wordpress.com/learn/courses/membership-sites-101/membership-plugins/ to learn about membership plans. You recommend the “free” Simple Membership. I won’t go into the story on how it sucked me into a page that asked for $300.00
But, what it this bit about moving my domain? I click “Get Started” and it says “choose a domain.” That’s the part that leads to the totally non-free $300.00 invoice. So I click the much smaller and less obvious “use a domain I own.” I then get this: blah is already registered on your site blah. Do you want to move to this site?
Um… somebody explain what all that means please. Because the documentation sure doesn’t If there’s a playbook I’m missing, please feel free to point me at it.The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi @mlawrence1966! It looks like you may have tried going through our flow for creating a new site instead of upgrading your existing one. You can upgrade michaeljlawrence.blog to the Creator plan on this page. The price you’ve already paid for your current plan will be discounted from the upgrade price, and no domain fussery is required.
In short, the part you were missing was this course assumes you don’t have a site. Since you do, you need this very specific process (I linked you above) first. Hope that hellps!
