Simple mobile viewer sign-up (without creating a blog)

  Sign up to view a private site on mobile seems impossible unless you create a blog yourself?
  on a computer there’s a well hidden “if you don’t want a blog…” opt out, but on an iphone there seems to be no way to sign in to a private blog without creating a blog as the invited viewer.
  Many of our friends are seniors who can’t deal with a long series of instructions. Is there a simple way in to our blog for invited guests?

  Hi there!

  In order for someone to view a private blog, they will need to have a WordPress.com account. If I’m understanding correctly, you’re inviting users that are then trying to sign-up for a WordPress.com account to view your site from a mobile browser after receiving the invitation. The issue is that the mobile sign-up form on WordPress.com for users to create an account prompts them to enter a site URL to create a new blog and will not let them simply sign-up for a username. Is that correct?

  Yes, that’s correct. How can someone sign up to view my blog from their iphone without being forced to create their own blog??

  Hi!

  Currently, it doesn’t look like it’s possible to create solely an account (without an attached website) through your iPhone. I’ve let our developers know so that they can potentially make this possible in the future. Going forward, I would suggest one of the following methods:

  1. They can use a desktop to sign-up for a user account without an accompanying blog. I realize this isn’t the best solution as it isn’t on the medium you want (iPhone). It is also possible to sign-up for just a username on an iPad.

  2. They can use the iPhone to signup for both a username and blog. Just a note, they never need to use the blog. It will just stay dormant unless they choose to post something.

  Would either of those two options work?
