Simple question: how to make tags
-
Please can somebody explain, very simply: How to enter tags in WordPress.com posts. I have seen some blogs which have: “Tags” … after posts, but I can’t find any way to do so. I have read several threads and followed links and still not found an answer I can understand. :-(

When you are writing or editing your post, on the right-hand side you’ll see some blue bars; click on the one that says Categories and you can just type in the categories you want to use in the little box. Click Add when you’re done each, and it’ll form a permanent list that is unique to your blog. You don’t have to use a WP.com master list, just pick any tags you want to use and type them in. I use everything from “Politics” to “Operation Global Media Domination”.
When you’ve done that, go to Presentation –> Sidebar Widgets and make sure you’ve got the Categories Widget in the sidebar, so they show up there.
Tags and categories are interchangeable at WP.com, by the way. Some people say Tags, some say Categories.

Thanks very much indeed for your clear explanation. I have finally understood (I think :-))
Would it be possible for you to just have a quick look at my blog and see if it looks as if I have done it properly? If you can, its Nodamblog.wordpress.com. I’m very new to this! -

It isn’t private, anybody can (should be able to) see it. Somebody left a comment on it last night. It’s a bit worrying if you can’t see it.
-
It’s easier for us if you link your username to your WordPress.com blog; all other sites are, quite frankly, irrelevant in this technical help forum.
When I tried to access your blog, it took me to the WordPress page that asked me if I wanted to register a new blog. Usually it doesn’t do that unless the blog is private or it was mis-spelled.

Looks very nice to me. There’s a “Critique My Blog” thread in the Off-Topic forum at the bottom of the page if you want more detailed feedback.

Hi there. I’m still trying to get the hang of figuring how WordPress works. While I understand that this topic talks about how/where to place a blogpost under a certain category, I would like to ask how to add ‘keywords’ to every single post. Can anyone help me figure it out?
I have visited this particular website about adding meta-tags: http://www.g-loaded.eu/2006/01/05/add-meta-tags-wordpress-plugin/
Yet, I could not locate it in the Admin->Options.
edit: after doing further seaching (around WordPress), I found out that you can’t setup meta-tags. but I would like to know how other people were able to add tags (at the bottom) of their blogposts?

We do not have plugins at wordpress.com. Here categories and tags are considered to be synonymous. If you wish you can use an off-line blog editor like BlogDesk or Windows Live Writer to produce Technorati tags. Or, you can use keotags. http://www.keotag.com/tagger.php Also note that Lorelle has a tagging that’s worth looking into. http://lorelle.wordpress.com/2005/10/14/a-tagging-bookmarklet-for-wordpress-and-wordpresscom-users/

The tags you see on posts at WordPress.com are just the categories. You add them in the Write Post page, on the right-hand side blue box called Categories, just like I said above.
WP tags appear to work like Technorati tags: I’ve gotten several hits through Technorati tag searches, and I haven’t used any extra functionality.

Hm, if tags and categories are interchangeable terms, then why on my stats page does it say “Total tags=8” when I have added only 5 of my own categories (in addition to the default “Uncategorised”)?
-
Nvm, the extra two came from “Blog Roll” (another default inclusion) and a term I added for tag surfing. I found them hiding under “Manage-> Categories”
