Simple site – 2 HTML files, 5 JPG files, 8 TXT files

With the Personal subscription, can I link to local TXT and JPG files from a static HTML home page? Can I edit the HTML file sources directly? (Resurrecting a small personal site that has existed online since the 1990s.)

Put another way — can I upload arbitrary supporting documents, such as TXT files, and link to them?

  • Hi there,

WordPress.com sites are dynamic, not static. Furthermore, you cannot edit your site’s HTML structure. But since you have a powerful dashboard and a WYSIWYG editor you don’t need to.

can I upload arbitrary supporting documents, such as TXT files, and link to them?

Yes, you can. You can upload them to your Media Library and link them to your posts and pages.

    Thanks.

I discovered that TXT files (such as would launch a text editor) are not a supported type for upload. But I think I figured out how to paste text from a text file – or links from static HTML files – into an HTML page of text or links.

This should be enough to preserve the 1990s content, which is my initial goal.
