Simple themes for an ever-changing set of website volunteers.
-
I am webmaster for a site run entirely by volunteers, so I have used a template which has a very simple management process, but offers the option of 28 different content blocks. It is currently mounted at Squarespace but some of our volunteers would like to move to WordPress (I don’t mind – I already have two blogs with you at jimthegeordie.wordpress.com). So that I can evaluate both options properly, could you please point me to a theme/template as close as possible to our current one.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

A slight correction. The site I need help with is u3asouthpen.org. Visit it to get a picture of what we are doing, then suggest a WordPress theme that would support the same content in the same way. Thank you.

Hi there,
Sure! The theme is fairly simple with a header and menu underneath, so I used that as my guide to find some theme that would work for you:

Hi, gracejiyoung,
Thank you for your prompt response. I have had a quick look at the themes you have proposed and at the basic level, any one of them would do the job perfectly. My problem is that our website will have three different personalities. Apart from the regular managerial one, we also want our members to display their own materials on the site and finally, we want to use the site as a platform for running courses on web development for our members. The only specific thing identified in our Squarespace platform as a need is that after creating a block, there is a wide variety of usages. I attach the list of block types on offer and wonder whether WordPress is sufficiently broadly set up to offer the same range (or near it – some block types such as opentable which reserves tables in a restaurant are never likely to be used!).
I am meeting our President and Treasurer next Thursday to report on how far I have got.
Regards,
Jim W.

We also want our members to display their own materials on the site
In order to do this, just add your members as a user of the site and they will be able to publish their own posts. Here are the different user roles we have on WordPress.com:
finally, we want to use the site as a platform for running courses on web development for our members.
I’ve seen courses run on WordPress.com before, but I’m not sure exactly what your course would entail. If you can give me more details that would be very helpful.
