  Since Friday I’m seeing a large number of visitors that are not showing up under the referrers tab. Each day the “missing” referrers exactly matches the number of hit’s I am getting on a particular blog entry “Disaster Recovery’s big brother Operational Recovery”. I realize that visitors are not updated as frequently as say views, but even when I look at yesterday’s stats the difference remains the same. I only ask because until this started the number of “referrers” exactly matched the number of “visitors”.

  Hi there!

  Not all visitors will land on your blog by clicking a link somewhere else. Visitors may type your URL directly into the web browser, click a link in an email, or click a link in another application which then loads the browser.

  Since your specific blog entry seems to be popular – it could be being shared via email or someone could be following your blog in a standalone, non-browser based RSS reader, which would not show up as a referrer in your stats.
