Single Page Theme with Slider Suggestions

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m looking for suggestions on a theme to meet my goals.
    – Single Page theme
    – Front page Featured Image Slider (not a post slider)
    – A panel for some text content
    – A panel for a few blog posts with featured images
    – A portfolio section, ideally with infinite scroll
    – Prominent social media icon area

I was trying to get Shoreditch to do it, and also looking at Creative and Zuki in the Premium themes, but I’m not sure if those will do it, and don’t want to spend the many hours it will take to find out without knowing that I’ll get it.

My current site is https://paintedjournals.com/ where I’m currently using the Enfold at a hosted .org install, which is what I want, but I think I could get pretty close at wordpress.com with a little direction. And it would be more economical to come back. I’m willing to go premium , but not business, it costs to much (I understand that I can easily get anything I want if I go business. That’s not the question).

It’s a shame there is no way to search for a featured image slider in the theme search.

    Thanks for any advice!

  • Hi there,

All the features you’re looking for can be achieved with our themes except for the image slider one. Our themes currently only support a post slider that can be customized to look like an image slider (hide text through CSS). If you’re looking for a true image slider, then the Business plan is your only option.

If you have any other questions, just let me know and I’ll be happy to help.

    Hi Fstat,

Since I’m not finding any themes that exactly fit, I’m guessing that you mean if I have a premium level, I can use CSS to modify the behavior?

For instance, to expand my wishlist, infinite scroll on a portfolio and also having footer widgets? Possible?

I understand how to add CSS, but I can’t write it. Would I get code snippets and other direction on request if I had a premium level?

And is their a link to a support or other a page that tells me about creating a post slider using CSS to hide text?

    Thanks.

…and perhaps to get more specific:
The main reason I think of coming back to .com from my hosted.org install is that I like the idea that the site would stay up if I decided I was unwilling or unable to pay. I know the domain would revert.

For instance if I took a free theme like “Sketch,’ which I really like, would the premium CSS option enable me to change the front page to include:

    -A text content area
-A blog area showing a few posts with featured images
    -A widget footer area
    -A tagline under my title

And then if it reverted back to a free plan, I would be left with the same site, but minus the CSS upgrades?

    Thanks.

    Hi chicagopainter,

I’m guessing that you mean if I have a premium level, I can use CSS to modify the behavior?

That’s correct, custom CSS is available on the Premium and Business plans.

infinite scroll on a portfolio and also having footer widgets?

This features are available on certain themes — each theme has a demo site which will help give you an idea of how it can be configured and the sort of features it provides. You can also search themes by feature in our showcase:

    https://wordpress.com/themes

Would I get code snippets and other direction on request if I had a premium level?

Custom CSS is something we can help with on the Premium and Business plans. CSS can’t be used to change the behaviour of a theme (e.g. changing the structure of a page), only styling such as colours, spacing and background images. This support documentation is a good introduction to what can be achieved:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-css/

Many of the changes you want to make are dependant on the actual theme and how that is configured.

And then if it reverted back to a free plan, I would be left with the same site, but minus the CSS upgrades?

That’s correct but it’s important to note that any custom CSS you have added will no longer work on the Free plan.

Well, after looking at the custom CSS link, it seems like I could probably do it, but will take a while to figure it out. I guess the thing to do would be to upgrade to premium, try to do it, and if I’m not satisfied just cancel it in the 30 days.

Thanks for your helpful advice. I’m marking this solved.
