Sisbar with categories

    I am trying to create a little organization on my blog.
    I want to make a SIMPLE sidebar with three categories.
    Two lines would filter according to category (which I assume could be accomplished with keywords), one would be a brief statement with a link to a another blog I am working on, A fourth, if I ever get to it, might be a gallery of photographs.

    I need simple instructions, preferably without the word CODEX (what is that, anyway?) or having to write any HTML.
    I am really clumsy with these appliances, and a template is probably best for a gorilla like me.
    Mt blog is presented in the twentytwelve theme.
