  This may be a stupid question but is WordPress only for blogs, or can I create a website with my own domain using WordPress? Thanks.

  Sure, you can use your own domain.

  Either register it directly, like outlined over here:

  Or map it, as it is called:
  https://wordpress.com/support/domains/register-domain/
