Site access?
-
My site is set as public but only the home page is visible and the link on it doesn’t work? What do I have to do to make the linked page (and other links on the site) publicly visible?
Site: (email visible only to moderators and staff).
WP.com: Yes
Correct account: Yes -

Hi @fitz1928 – You are very close to having this work correctly.
The link on your home page is going to the Admin/Edit view for another page. Since only you have access to the admin area, only you can load that link.
You will need to change that link so that it points to the publicly available version of the page on your live website.
If you need more detailed steps, let us know and we’ll try to help further. :)

Thank you. I have updated the home page so that it links to a public page which contains the links to the other pages on the site. Can you check that it’s ok now, please. Appreciate your assist, this is all new to me! Liam
The website url is http://www.fitz1928.wordpress.com

The address of your site to give out is https://fitz1928.wordpress.com/
www is unnecessary these days.
Also the link doesn’t work for me. The only way I can see any content on your site is by https://fitz1928.wordpress.com/?s=page. Perhaps you need a menu on the front page to help people navigate. However personally I find using pages and links to be clunky as it relies on visitors making the effort and clicking through past the front page to see anything. I prefer sites where the Posts/Blog page is the first thing visitors see and then all they have to do is scroll down to see older posts.

The site is not set up as a blog, rather as a website with pages, that’s why I’m using that format. It’s just a classic website with a list of pages and links to them, but the links don’t seem to be working properly? Thanks for your comment.

As mentioned earlier that link goes to your dashboard and can only be seen by yourself. Are the pages you wish to link to all published? Have you looked at https://wordpress.com/support/links/

When I go to my pages they are all shown as published and public. I don’t know why the home page links to an admin page because the linked url is also public and published? I used the method described on the support/link you gave. This is the url for the link: https://wordpress.com/page/fitz1928.wordpress.com/15
Am I missing something? Thanks.

Yes it seems so. I can find your page 15 by searching but still can’t find the correct URL for it on your site.
https://fitz1928.wordpress.com/?s=15
PS You could still get that same format far easier by using posts. -

Navigate to the page in your dashboard. What is the actual title of the page that contains all those links? Check. copy and paste the permalink into your front page.

Gotcha, it’s the permalink I should be using as the link, not the wordpress page url. I’ll have to update all the links on that page but that solved it? I signed out and the link works. Thanks for that. Have a great week. Cheers. Liam

I’m glad you got it sorted to your satisfaction. The only thing to bear in mind by having links on a page is that once visitors open a link and visit a particular page there is no obvious way to see further content on your site. They must know to use the back button on their browser or click the words top right to “go back round again” and log back in to the page listing the links. I would have placed a menu in a sidebar that was always visible to viewers especially if you intend to keep adding further pages but as long as the site works for you then thats ok. Good look with your site.

Thank you. I think if someone is interested in the subject they will click through the site gladly, if they are not then they won’t stay, anyway! I’m not really looking for visitors, I just want to share my collection. Thanks again, it was nice talking to you. Have a great week and weekend. All the best. Liam
