Site accessibility

I have two different websites on wordpress. One with a ‘.wordpress.com’ domain, while the other one is a ‘.home.blog’ domain. On the second blog, I have been writing extensively.
Offlate, I have realised that the .wordpress.com keeps getting hits even without my sharing links with anyone, while the other one is only accessible if someone has bookmarked or has the link.
How do I bring, .home.blog one to online search. If I search it, I cannot find it on google. What is the reason for this? Please help.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi @amtianshu26, are you posting the same content to both sites? I’d recommend against that since it can give you trouble with SEO and what not. It’s possible one site is being blocked if it’s a duplicate of the other.

If they’re the same, I’d recommend merging them into the more popular site.

And going forward, there are several things you could be doing to encourage more traffic. We’ve got some tips here:

I’m having the same issue. I have https://evadillnerblog.wordpress.com and https://gronhogen.home.blog The first one has more content with few postings this year. The second one has lots of fresh posts, but won’t show when searched for on the major search engines. The old blog shows up in searches. It is indexed on my google webmaster account, something I can’t do with the new blog. The new blog is more interesting to other house builders. When I set it up I thought it was better with two blogs, but now thinking I should migrate the new blog into the old and set up a separate category for it. If I migrate the newer blog I want to make sure 301 redirect works, as many people have the link. It gets good traffic.

I don’t see any reason why search engines won’t be indexing your .home.blog site. The robots.txt file at https://gronhogen.home.blog/robots.txt allows search engines, and the sitemap at https://gronhogen.home.blog/sitemap.xml is fine and up to date with your most recent posts, so everything search engines need to be able to index that site are there.

And it appears that the issue is only with Google:

If I look for your site on other search engines, there are several results:

So it might be better to contact Google directly to find out why they’re not indexing that site.

The old blog shows up in searches. It is indexed on my google webmaster account, something I can’t do with the new blog.

Why can’t you add the new site in Google Search Console? Are you getting an error when you try?

You should be able to by following the process at https://en.support.wordpress.com/webmaster-tools/ – any WordPress.com site can be verified in that way, regardless if it’s on a WordPress.com or a .blog subdomain.

Thanks! I also tried different search engines and Google was the only one that didn’t give a response. I’d missed the site verification at the bottom of Tools/Traffic, have now added the meta tag.

Still wondering if combining my blogs would be better, with higher total traffic?

  • It’s definitely worth considering, you’d lose the separation, but possibly gain a larger audience.
