Site Address – change name
-
Hi, I want to create a site to trial wordpress before I commit to swapping to wordpress from my existing provider. If I create a wordpress.com site name which doesn’t allow a hyphen in the name can I change it later to my existing site name which does include a hyphen?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

WordPress.com site URLs cannot use hyphens. So the correct answer to your question is “no”.
Now, you could create mygreatsitetest.wordpress.com or mygreatsite98765.wordpress.com and then change it to mygreatsite.wordpress.com once you had made your decision.

Thank you for replying. If I went on to upgrade to premium or business would I then be able to put my hyphen in do you think?

Hi there!
If you register a custom domain, you can add a hyphen to your WordPress.com site.
So, while you CANNOT own railcerts,wordpress.com, you can upgrade the site so the URL is rail-certs.com. Those domain names are hypothetical, of course, but the hyphen can be added.
If I went on to upgrade to premium or business would I then be able to put my hyphen in do you think?
You can do this by buying/registering a domain name, by upgrading to Premium and adding a custom domain name, or by upgrading to Business and adding a custom domain. Anything that works best for you!
I hope this helps! If you have any other concerns, drop me a note. Thanks much!
