Site broken: header, theme, colors gone
-
The site is daveberger.net. It looks like the various customizations (header, pages, colors) have disappeared. Can you help?
My email address is NO LONGER at comcast.net. I have tried repeatedly to change this at wordpress.com, to no avail. It is CRITICAL that you respond to me at (email visible only to moderators and staff), as I NO LONGER receive email at comcast. Please respond asap, as David Berger is very concerned about his broken site. Can it be restored?
Eleanor Baron, for daveberger.netThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I do not see a “broken” site. I see a one page site wearing the Edin theme without an optional header image.
Have you consulted your detailed theme description page here? https://wordpress.com/themes/edin/
Have you also consulted the custom header image support doc at https://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-header-image/How do I get a Moderator/Staff reply for my question? https://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-help-in-the-forums/#how-do-i-get-a-moderatorstaff-reply-for-my-question

Thank you timethief. Yes, the site is there, but the custom colors and header are missing. And the site is only showing one of several pages and sub pages. I do not recall the name of the theme he was using, but I don’t believe it was this. This site is missing the entire navigation. How do I track down what went wrong and get the site restored?
Thanks -
I used Google search and searched the cache on Oct 8, 2015 11:07:28 GMT the site was wearing the The Gridiculous Pro Theme. https://wordpress.com/themes/gridiculous-pro/ is where you will find the set up instructions that applied before whoever changed the theme to Edin did that.
The guide for changing themes in the support docs is found at this link https://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/#switch-themes
Note that this is the link to the support doc for the theme customizer for setting the header image and for the custom menu, etc. https://en.support.wordpress.com/customizer/All themes are unique and have different features such as different header dimensions, etc. And, premium themes are a one time purchase for the duration of the time the site remains hosted at wordpress.COM. In fact, premium themes also have theme specific support docs https://wordpress.com/themes/gridiculous-pro/support/ and exclusive support directly from the theme authors.
https://premium-themes.forums.wordpress.com/forum/gridiculous-proYou need to ascertain exactly which theme this person wants to run on his blog as he has already paid for the premium theme called Gridiculous Pro Theme, and the “brokenness” was caused by changing themes without using the guide in the support doc and the customizer. Once you know which theme is going to be on the blog then the setup can be undertaken to address the issues you report.

This site is missing the entire navigation.
Please read this support doc so you know how to proceed https://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/view-all/

I can see that the pages still exist, though not showing. I appreciate your help. Before I contact Dave Berger, can you tell me a few more things?
Will wordpress can restore the site to the Oct 8 setup?
If I have to set the Gridalicious theme up for him again, will any of the customizations come back, or will I be starting from scratch?
Fortunately, the media files are still there, so restoring the header won’t be a problem.
Thank you!

No, I am afraid not.
If I have to set the Gridalicious theme up for him again, will any of the customizations come back, or will I be starting from scratch?
If and old theme has the same functionality as a new theme (widget areas for example) then customization should switch. But if not, then I’m afraid you are back at “start”.

Thanks. How do I go about finding out how the site was changed over to the Edin theme. I have reinstalled Gridiculous Pro, and all is well—just trying to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
Also—can you check to make sure that my email is going to the correct address, please? (email visible only to moderators and staff) (not comcast address). Thank you for your help.

How do I go about finding out how the site was changed over to the Edin theme
So it looks like when your Unlimited Premium Theme upgrade expired, the Premium theme Edin was removed.
an you check to make sure that my email is going to the correct address, please?
Is your email address listed correctly here: https://wordpress.com/me/account

Thanks. Tried to change email address in account settings to (email visible only to moderators and staff) and got a big red warning box “problem saving your changes”

It looks like that email address is already in use. I would encourage you to use the password recovery system:

Hi,
I do not want to reset my password, just my email address. If that email is already in use, it is because a staff representative started the process of resetting it for me, but I have never received an email to the (email visible only to moderators and staff) address. Can you help?
thanks -
If you can log into the non-used account, you can then change the email to something else. This should then allow you to use that address with your current account. That’s why I was suggesting the password recovery system.
For security reasons, staff cannot change email addresses.
