SITE CAN'T BE REACHED

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello,

I did transfer from wordpress.com to wordpress.org & bluehost is my chosen web service provider. But recently, the ff. errors appear:

    This site can’t be reached

xyzagerondio.com’s server DNS address could not be found.
    DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN

I did’nt know what to do. I’m asking different people & they said that I wasn’t able to renew at wordpress.com using https://en.support.wordpress.com/transfer-domain-registration/

I didn’t know all this stuffs. I thought WPBeginner had covered all the necessary details to keep my site working properly. Sadly, I still miss something.

Can someone tell me what should be done?

    Thank you very much.

    Xyza

  • Hi Xyza,

Looks like your domain xyzagerondio.com expired on February 17, 2017, and it’s in the Redemption Period. This means that your domain name can still be renewed, but there is an $80.00 redemption fee required in addition to the normal renewal cost. You can read more about domains expiration here:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/domain-expiration/

I have notified the Support staff. They’ll tell you how to proceed.

    Hello Xyza,

xyzagerondio.com expired on 2017-02-17 and is currently in the redemption period:

    Domain Expiration

The good news is that you can still try to recover your domain as it has not yet been deleted, purchased by someone else at auction or sold on back-order. An $80 redemption fee will be added to the regular domain renewal cost of $18.

If you agree to these costs I can generate a payment request for the amount. Once that has been paid, we can start the process of trying to get your domain back. Should the recovery fail after you’ve paid the redemption fee, that fee is refunded in full.

If you do not want to pay the fee, you can wait until the domain is released but you may not be able to get it back if it is purchased at auction during this time.

Acting quickly is important if you do want to try and recover the domain, so please let me know what you would like to do as soon as you can.

If we can recover the domain, it can then be transferred to Bluehost.

    Thanks!

    Hello,

Thank you for the help @fstat & @gemmacevans. I really appreciate it so much…

Oh My God! I really can’t believe this happens because I thought everything is covered by WPBeginner when I transferred. It means that I will be paying $90???! It is so expensive Ma’am & I barely can afford bluehost’s $59.40 yearly registration. Oh my! :(

Is there any other way @gemmacevans???
Can bluehost help me with this? Maybe I’d change my domain name? Is that possible?
Or you mention about waiting until the domain is released? — Maybe this is my best option RN.

Please help me…I really don’t know what to do.

    Thank you.

    Hi Xyza,

I’m afraid we are charged this fee by our domain registrar to recover the domain. I appreciate this is a lot of money but without it, we are unable to recover a domain in the redemption period.

Can bluehost help me with this? Maybe I’d change my domain name? Is that possible?

The domain was registered through WordPress.com so Bluehost won’t be able to help with recovery. Register a new domain through them would be a cheaper option if you don’t want to pay the redemption fee.

Or you mention about waiting until the domain is released? — Maybe this is my best option RN.

This is an option. It is a little risker because you have to wait for the domain to be released. When that happens you can register it through Bluehost. Unfortunately I can’t give you an exact timeframe of when this will be.

Come back to me if you have any questions.

    Hello @gemmacevans,

Yes, I understand the risk of waiting the released of the domain + the uncertainty of the time of it’s released. That made me tenfold depressed right now Ma’am…

But my concern is… if I’m willing to take the risk of the waiting game, would it take a year or more? If so, would that mean that I can recover all of the contents of my site? I mean… my blog-posts? the images of my site? my edits? my themes? all of it?

Or would I start from scratch again?

Or the only way is to pay $90 to recover my domain? If so, would you supervise me for the recovery & transfer to bluehost? Or I will do it alone? If so, would there be any other problems? Would all of my site’s contents will be recovered then? Is it hassle-free?

Thank you again for helping me… I wouldn’t know all this stuffs without you Ma’am… Thanks a lot.

    P.S.

If I will register another domain to bluehost, that means that I will start from scratch right? New theme? New content? Back to zero?

    Please @gemmacevans,

I badly need some answers now… My main concern is to retrieve all the contents (meaning…blogposts, images, themes, plugins, basically all of it)… JUST AS IT IS. The wordpress.org self-hosted site with the TwentySeventeen theme that I’ve been putting so much efforts & time to develop on my own.

I don’t want to start from scratch again….

Would all be back as it is if I make the $90 payment? Is this the only way???

    Please help….

    Hi there,

if I’m willing to take the risk of the waiting game, would it take a year or more?

Once a domain expires it can take up to 90 days for it to be released — just bear in mind this isn’t an exact timeframe and it could take a little longer.

would that mean that I can recover all of the contents of my site?

You won’t lose the content from your WordPress.org site but you’ll need to speak to your hosting provider about accessing it — as the login URL uses the expired domain. If we can recover the domain, you will be able to login as normal.

Or the only way is to pay $90 to recover my domain?

If you want to recover the domain, I’ll need to send a payment request for the redemption fee and domain cost.

If so, would you supervise me for the recovery & transfer to bluehost?

Of course! I can help you work through it :)

    Hello @gemmacevans,

Okay. I was able to lend money from a friend yesterday, whoah I guess I just need to accept the fact that I don’t have the best choice right now. I need to login as normal & I don’t want to lose all the time & efforts I spent developing my site on my own. Also, I don’t want to wait a lot longer… I need to get back my site as soon as possible.

Can we chat? Or talk to email?

How long will it take? Can we start the process now?

Thank you as always @gemmacevans for all the patience & help.

How long will it take? Can we start the process now?

I’ve just sent a payment request to the email address on your WordPress.com account. Please let me know if you don’t receive it.

Once that has been paid, I’ll contact our domain registrar to start the recovery process — we usually hear back in 1-2 days.

I’ll keep an eye out for your payment :)

If you have any questions, just let me know.

    Hello @gemmacevans,

I’ve already paid $98 just now. Thanks for the supervision. Means a lot! :)

    Xyza

  • Unknown's avatar

Thanks for your payment. I’ve contacted our registrar and will let you know when I have an update.

    Speak to you soon!

Good news! We were able to recover the domain and it is now active on your account :)

    Hello @gemmacevans,

Wow!!! I’m super happy!!! :) Thank you so much….

    So, what’s next?

    Thanks a million,

    Hi Xyza,

Next, the email address for your domain needs to be verified. Please check your email account (and spam folders) for an ICANN verification email and follow the steps.

Once you’ve done that, I’ll send you some instructions for transferring the domain.

Let me know how you get on.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello @gemmacevans,

I already verified my email address…

    Thanks!

    Hello @gemmacevans,

I’m waiting for the instructions for transferring the domain…

    Thanks!

    Hi Xyza,

You can now start the domain transfer using the steps in this guide:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/transfer-domain-registration/

There is a five day waiting period after the transfer has been started. During this time you will receive an email to confirm (or cancel) the transfer. After you have confirmed, the domain will be transferred within 5 days.

Come back to me if you have any problems.

    Hello @gemmacevans,

I watched bluehost video tutorial about transferring domain & it says:

“Avoid transferring your domain within 45 days of renewal, or you could lose that renewal year.”

…What does it mean? That I can’t transfer yet?

    Please help.

    Thanks!

    Xyza
