Site Deleted?
-
Hello WordPress Team
So, I tried to log onto my site http://www.taotequevault.com yesterday and I was met with a screen I’ve never seen before, with the text saying ‘Hello World’ below a bird flying across the page!? This is clearly not the site I created, I’m not sure what has happened but it looks like everything has been deleted, everything! If this is the case I will be extremely upset because I had a lot on this site, I poured a lot of time, a lot of money to into this, storing videos, over 70 articles, a huge gallery and so much more. I’d like my site to restored to how it was please and I’d like it back soon. I am very worried I’ve lost everything and I do not know why, nor do I understand how this has happened. I did email you yesterday evening responding to an e-mail you sent regarding an update, but as of yet I’ve not heard anything back.
Thank you

Hello there,
Many thanks for reaching out.
This is a site hosted with GoDaddy and uses self-hosted WordPress. Please see more on self-hosted WordPress here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
Is this the site you’re used to working on?
If yes, it is possible to connect the domain taotequevault.com to taoscribe.wordpress.com as per these instructions: https://wordpress.com/support/domains/connect-existing-domain/
Please note that a paid plan would be required in order to set a custom domain.
I hope this helps so far.

Hey man,
Thank you for your reply, I’ve been doing my best not to freak out all day, so your help is greatly appreciated.
Honestly, I do not know much about this stuff, I went through two web designers to get this up and running and I often require help to keep it maintained.
I do know that my host for http://www.taotequevault.com is GoDaddy, and this site (my blog) https://taoscribe.wordpress.com is WordPress…They’re two different sites, the WordPress one is free, thank Christ because I can barely afford a pack of Hula Hoops these days, the GoDaddy one is much larger and costs £11.00 a month.
I was hoping to restore http://www.taotequevault.com as it was, and if WordPress can offer me a service better than GoDaddys, then I will happily make the switch, with some help and guidance of course because I am not a web designer or technician of any sort, and I feel I would only make the situation worse if I was to get my hands dirty.
Looking forward to your reply

Hi Duncan:
Since the
taotequevault.comsite is not hosted with WordPress.com, we cannot access files or data for sites that are hosted elsewhere, so WordPress.com staff can only assist with sites that are hosted on our servers. You should reach out to this site’s host GoDaddy for help with this problem. Since they’re hosting your site’s files, they also have access to those files and are the best ones to help you with this issue. Hopefully they have a recent backup of your site on their end to restore – or if you were using a backup plugin, you should be able to give them the backup file to restore.
As far as moving your site to us after you recover your content, it depends on how the site is set up now. Since I can’t see what the site is at the moment, it’s tough to advise how to move that over. If it’s a site that uses plugins or if it’s a store using WooCommerce, you would need to upgrade to one of our plans that allows the use of plugins. But, we can better advise once your site is back online exactly what you need.
Best of luck!
