Site deletion

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi

I have my site hosted with someone else at the moment so would like to delete it off WordPress. We may return to WordPress in the future, but will rebuild the site at that point – everything to do with the site at the moment can be deleted. Is this possible?

    Thanks,

    Jez

Thanks @codekmyta, I have followed the instructions, however, if I try to export the site, I get a 404 error? Any idea why this might be?

    Thanks,

    Jez

Hmm, what is the URL for the website? When I searched this result on the forum there seemed to be a few instances of it but no real outlined explanation as to why or solution.

I think the best thing to do here is to tag modlook and have staff take a look into this. I’ve tagged modlook for staff to help you out with this – they should be in touch within a few hours to look into your inquiry.

For more information about how to get the attention of staff please review the following documentation: https://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-help-in-the-forums/#how-do-i-get-a-moderatorstaff-reply-for-my-question

Hope your issue gets resolved soon!

    Cheers

  • Hi Jez –

would like to delete it off WordPress

What is the site URL? The instructions shared are going to be based on which version of WordPress the site used.

Thanks for that codekmyta, much appreciated.

Site URL is dustproof.co, but not a WordPress site – yet if I go to view site, it’s visible. WordPress version is 4.9.1 I think. There seems to be no domains attached to it, there’s nothing on there, just seems to be linked to the site that’s hosted elsewhere.

    Hey again,

The issue here is that dustproof.com is actually a self-hosted WordPress.org siterather than WordPress.com.

This forum is designed to help clients hosted by WordPress.com. For more information on the difference between the two please check out this link: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org.

If you are in need of support for your self-hosted website you may be able to find an answer on the WordPress.org support page at the link provided: https://wordpress.org/support/ or as an alternative you may want to contact your hosting provider.

    Sorry to have mislead you!

    Cheers

Thanks, @codekmyta, you’re absolutely correct that the site dustproof.co is using the free WordPress software and appears to be hosted at Google. If you’d like the use the domain with another provider you can point the domain to another host.

If you’re switching to another CMS then you will need to make changes to the site’s files removing WordPress.

Sorry we couldn’t be of more help but we do hope to see you at WordPress.com sometime in the future.
