Site description and text shadow

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello all,

    The site I need help with is higheredinsight.com. I’ve figured out a way to add a text shadow to the site-title, but I can’t for the life of me add it to the site-description. Nothing I’ve tried seems to work.

    Many thanks for your help.

    Hi, umg1
    Before we get into adding shadow to the site-description, lets clear up another issue first. Did you know that it’s against the WordPress.com terms of service to remove the WordPress.com and theme credits from the footer area of a WP.com-hosted site? See, for example, the comments by member timethief, citing the relevant ToS section and a support document, and by Happiness Engineer jackiedana, in the forum topic Removing Blog Credits Bar at Bottom of Blog?

    Thank you for your response, and I’ll share this with the person who manages the site. I was tasked with simply coming up for the CSS with this and don’t have access to the customization under my own account to make the change — which is why I manually typed the site address in my post.

    I’d still very much like to create a text shadow around the site description if someone could help me with that.

    Thank you again.

    Giving this a bump out of desperation…

    I see that the other issue I mentioned has been corrected. Thanks. You might also submit the request regarding adding shadow to site-description to the CSS Customization forum.

    Thanks. I believe I am posting the CSS customization forum. I can see this post in the link you sent, as well as in the breadcrumb above.

    Oops! Sorry. You are in the correct forum. I’m apparently in left field.

    I see that you already have a text shadow on the description – it’s using the same text-shadow as your site-title. If you want to isolate site-description to make its shadow stand out more, you can increase it’s opacity like so:

    .site-description {
      font-size: 1.1em;
      text-shadow: 0 1px 5px rgba(0, 0, 0, 1.0) !important;
    }

    You can see that I added !important to the text-shadow rule to make sure it overrides any other rule that may come after it. It’s best not to use !important if possible, so I would recommend that you try it without !important first, and only add it if necessary.

    Thank you! That worked great.
