Site description in Google
-
Hi,
I launched my site a few weeks ago and most of its pages are now indexed in Google, but search results for the homepage continue to show a description of:
“A description for this result is not available because of this site’s robots.txt”
I am confused by this as the site has been fully available for indexing for some weeks now. However when I was building the site I did initially disallow indexing (in WP Admin > Settings > Reading > “Discourage search engines from indexing this site”), so I am wondering if the robot.txt has not properly updated. Can anyone tell me if this is the case, and if so, how I might put this right?
Many thanks.

Hmmm. I’m not sure why that is. I am in the UK, so perhaps we are looking at different versions of Google? For me, a search for “Ian Johnstone author” shows my homepage as the 12th result, but the description is still as above, “A description for this result is not available because of this site’s robots.txt”.

I hope you understand the BIG sites like Goodreads, etc. where you have registered will always outrank your site.

My query is not about rankings. It is about site descriptions (the snippet description beneath the page title), which currently refers to the robots.txt file. This is not normal.
