Site disappeared

Is there a reason why my website doesn’t exist anymore?

    Site: openbiblemessage.wordpress.com.
    WP.com: Unknown
    Jetpack: Unknown
    Correct account: Unknown

openbiblemessage.wordpress.com has never been registered, https://wordpress.com/typo/?subdomain=openbiblemessage. The site you are looking for must have another URL.

That’s so strange. I was able to find a backup version of my site:
    https://messagemagazinetesthome.wpcomstaging.com/

How can I transfer everything over to the new one? I want everything to be at:
    openbiblemessage.wordpress.com

    Any advice? Thanks!

    @chris9356:

It looks like this site at one point had a Business plan upgrade, which allowed the of custom plugins and themes, but it had expired the end of June 2021. This upgrade allowed the use of the domain openbiblemessage.org for this site as well.

Additionally, the original site URL was messagemagazinetesthome.wordpress.com, so that site would revert to that URL, not openbiblemessage.wordpress.com.

In order to do this, we’ll need to downgrade the site messagemagazinetesthome.wpcomstaging.com first. To downgrade the site, we must confirm that you understand:

    1. Any content (pages, posts, media, comments, etc) that has been added after adding outside themes and plugins will be lost.

    2. Any custom content created by plugins and themes will not be carried over.

    3. Plugins and third-party themes can no longer be used.

    4. The site will revert to using the old theme.

NOTE: We can only do this by request of the site owner. While you’re a listed Administrator, you’re not the owner of the site. If they can comment here to confirm they want the site reverted.

However, it sounds like this IS the website you need to have active because your content is not hosted elsewhere. I would recommend having the site owner subscribe to the Business Plan again, then we would be able to get your domain set to the site again once you change your nameservers back from the GoDaddy ones you have now.

I hope that helps! Let us know if you have any questions.

Thank you so much for the response. That makes total sense!

Unfortuntely, the owner of the site is no longer employed at this office and has given all rights to me. Can we still go forward with the steps you suggested as far as downgrading the site?

No. We can’t do anything unless the request comes from the account of the current owner of the site here at WordPress.com.

But I want to clarify what it is you’re trying to do: Are you trying to get your domain openbiblemessage.org to work on the site that’s being hosted under messagemagazinetesthome.wpcomstaging.com again? Or are you asking to delete the site listed at messagemagazinetesthome.wpcomstaging.com?

Once we have that clarified we can better advise. Thanks.

Who do you have listed as the current owner? Is it Nate or Lucas? Neither of them work at this company any longer.

What we’d like to do is have go back to our original set up. We don’t want to delete anything.

If openbiblemessage.org could work with the site hosted under messagemagazinetesthome.wpcomstaging.com, that would be great.

  • @chris9356 we can’t reveal the site owner, but it’s one of the people here:
    https://wordpress.com/people/team/messagemagazinetesthome.wpcomstaging.com

We would need the upgrade owner to confirm the site downgrade, so if you could get in touch with each of those and figure out who set it up, that would work.

Or, if you want to keep the site as-is, though, I want to say anyone on your team could re-add the Business Plan. That would allow your theme and any plugins to stay in place, and you could add the domain back to it. You would just buy the plan, then we would need to hook up the domain again, I want to say. If you want to go that route, please let us know.

Ok let’s re-add the business plan. I can’t get in touch with the site owner, but we must move forward.

Please advise on what to do next in order to retain the site. Thank you

  • Hi @chris9356,

You can begin the process of repurchasing the Business Plan by going to https://wordpress.com/pricing/.

As far as hooking the domain back to the site, openbiblemessage.org is currently hosted with Go Daddy. Do you have access to the domain account there? If so, you have the option of transferring the domain over to WordPress.com:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/incoming-domain-transfer/

Otherwise, if you want to continue to map the domain, please visit our support page on the steps to set that back up:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/

Please let us know if you need any assistance. Of course, once you purchase the Business Plan, you have the option to reach out to live chat who will be able to assist you in real time.

    Thanks!

I would just like to move the staging site (messagemagazinetesthome.wpcomstaging.com) to a normal original WordPress site (messagemagazinetesthome.wordpress.com).

The feature I need the most to to have access to the “plugins” page. Will I have that access once I re-add the Business plan?

  • Hi there,

The feature I need the most to to have access to the “plugins” page. Will I have that access once I re-add the Business plan?

Yes that is correct. The Business plan unlocks that feature (lower plans do not)

I would just like to move the staging site (messagemagazinetesthome.wpcomstaging.com) to a normal original WordPress site (messagemagazinetesthome.wordpress.com).

It is not possible to have a business site use the “wordpress.com” address in this case. To explain, for the Business plan we move your site to our business hosting, which is what makes it possible to add plugins.

However, our business hosting uses a different address structure than our “simple” sites, and there is no way to associate the wordpress.com url with sites on our business hosting. Also most businesses prefer to use their own custom domain (which is better for Search Engine Optimization) and do not usually use our assigned domain which is less suited for this purpose.

The good news however is that if you purchase the annual (not monthly) version of the Business plan it includes a free custom domain for the first year. You can use it to choose a new address for the site, like openbiblemessage.church or open-bible-message.com for example. It can be any domain you wish, as long as it’s available and not already taken.

The other advantage of the Annual Business Plan is that it includes 24/7 priority live chat support. I don’t want to sell us short here in the forums, but if you are taking over this site from someone else I’m sure you are going to have questions. Chat is the fastest and best way to reach us when you need a hand and we’re always happy to take a look at your site.

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
