site down, theme-related
-
hi, my site is down at the moment … the original problem was an outdated theme and I managed to restore the site by changing to a free wordpress theme. however, it’s now down again
I think it has to do with the fact I I initially tried to fix the problem by restoring a backup thru my host (GoDaddy) and then, having fixed the problem, attempted to undo that action

Hello,
Hello,
I have verified that your site is not hosted on WordPress.com. In this case, you use the self-hosted version, the software of which is available on WordPress.org.
WordPress.com and WordPress.org sites are different. Check it out: https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org
This forum is only focused on sites hosted on WordPress.com.
You can contact your host directly to get help with your issue.
WordPress.org community forums can be a good place to ask for help with this:
http://wordpress.org/support/forums
I’ll bring you some information that might help.
I see a “critical error” message on your website. It means that there is a problem with the site that is preventing it from functioning properly. There could be a few different causes for this type of error, including:
- A plugin or theme conflict: If you have recently installed or updated a plugin or theme, it is possible that the plugin or theme is causing the error. You can try deactivating all your plugins and switching to a default theme to see if the error persists. If the error goes away, you can try reactivating your plugins and switching back to your theme one at a time to identify the cause of the problem.
- A issue with the WordPress core files: It is possible that the WordPress core files have become corrupted or modified, causing the error. You can try replacing the core files with a fresh set of files from the WordPress.org repository to see if that resolves the issue.
- A problem with the hosting environment: If the problem is not caused by a plugin, theme, or WordPress core issue, it is possible that there is a problem with your hosting environment. This could be due to issues with the server, database, or other factors. In this case, you may need to contact your hosting provider for further assistance.
More information: https://wordpress.org/support/article/faq-troubleshooting/
It is possible that the Jetpack plugin could cause a “critical error” message to be displayed on your website. If you have recently installed or updated the Jetpack plugin, it is worth considering whether the plugin may be the cause of the error.
To troubleshoot the issue, you can try deactivating the Jetpack plugin and see if the error persists. If the error goes away when you deactivate Jetpack, it is likely that the plugin is causing the issue. In this case, you may need to contact the Jetpack support team for further assistance: https://jetpack.com/support/
If the error persists even after deactivating Jetpack, it is possible that the problem is caused by something else. You can try the other troubleshooting steps I mentioned earlier, such as replacing the core WordPress files or checking for plugin and theme conflicts.
I hope that helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hello, this is a WordPress.com forum and apparently your site is not hosted here but using the open-source version of the WordPress software at GoDaddy.
Therefore you can ask for support, directly from them or you can also ask at the WordPress.org forum:
https://wordpress.org/support/forums/If you want to know more about their differences, here is a little more information:
https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org/Also, this reads when trying to check your site:
Please check your site admin email inbox for instructions.
So checking your email might also have some answers.
Good luck!
