Site down – Updating DNS?
-
Good afternoon.
My seasonal site is down (so it’s only really used Aug-Dec). As far as I can tell it went down in June.
I looked to see if it was something to do with the domain mapping – and there is a big red bar across the screen saying “DNS needs to be updated”.
I am amazed as both my domain hosting and website domain names are up to date – What mistake have I made. I don’t think I did anything!?
Would anyone be kind enough to help and tell me what I need to do?
Many thanks

I can’t get to your site at all, but according to your whois record you do seem to be hosted on WordPress.COM. I’m also noticing your WordPress address (http://rs247.wordpress.com/) is still redirecting to betsfactor.com so it doesn’t seem like your domain mapping is expired.
I’m going to mark this thread for Staff Assistance. It’s a holiday weekend in the US, so it may take them a bit longer than usual to get back to you. It’s also possible another volunteer with have an idea and chime in before that.

Hi Richard,
While the public whois shows that there are nameservers assigned for your domain and that they are correct, when I directly query external DNS servers what your domain’s nameservers are, the query comes back blank, meaning that your domain registrar has cleared your domain’s DNS.
In short, while you did have nameservers, something happened with your domain registrar and they do are not currently set at all. You may be able to fix this by logging in with your domain registrar and changing them to something else and then changing them back, or you may need to contact your registrar and and ask them to fix it for you. Once they do your site should come up within a few hours.
If you would like to test what I did yourself, it’s quite easy. I opened up a command prompt (windows) or terminal session (Mac) and entered the following command:
dig @8.8.8.8 +short NS betsfactor.comThis command uses Google’s DNS servers (the 8.8.8.8 part) as a place to query from and asks for the nameservers (the NS) part for betsfactor.com. It should come back with a list of your nameservers. You can change out betsfactor.com with any other domain in the world to see what it should look like, however yours came back blank.
Let me know if you have any questions about this!
