Site down/missing domain
-
Hi.
I’ve just noticed that my domain name goodwin-equestrian.com is no longer working. The site originally was on WordPress.com where I think I got the domain name from.
The site now is not using WordPress.com anymore but a bespoke WordPress theme hosted elsewhere.
I’ve logged on and cant see the domain goodwin-equestrian.com
Its my business so is quite important to get the site back up and running ASAP so if anyone could help that would be great.
Thanks
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
Since this site isn’t hosted here at WordPress.com, there isn’t a whole lot we can do. Try posting in the WordPress.org support forums, or contact your hosting company directly.
Good luck!

Hi. Thanks for the reply.
The site is hosted elsewhere but the domain was set up through WordPress.com apparently. I cant remember the process we went through when going to the new site last year. but I cant seem to find the domain anywhere !

The domain has expired apparently. Can someone from WordPress advise me on how to go about renewing it please ?
-
Hi there,
Your domain has indeed expired – it expired on 23 October after automatic renewal was apparently disabled on 7 July.
It’s still possible to recover that domain, but it’s now in redemption with our registrar and they charge a $80 fee to restore a domain once it reaches this point. If you agree to that fee, please let me know and I can get the process started for you.

I’ve just sent you a payment link. I’ll be notified once we receive payment, then I’ll contact our registrar to request that they restore the domain.
-
Thank you for your payment. I’ve emailed our registrar to restore the domain. I’ll let you know as soon as I hear back from them.
-
Hi, please can you advise when the domain will be restored, we are desperate to get this website up and running.
Thanks
-
Our Staff will notify you as the registrar releases the domain so it can be recovered for your use.

It takes as long as it takes the registrar to respond to our Staff and I cannot provide a time frame. More to the point is the fact that once the domain URL is recovered it can take up to 72 hours (but doesn’t usually take that long) for the domain URL to propagate throughout the internet. That is why we have auto renew notifications. In fact the word expired means complete, over with, dead and done and no one wants to experience account recovery and the added redemption fee so it blows my mind when I see that people allow their domain URLs to expire.
-
P.S. What I do so this never happens to me is enter the information for domain renewal into my business appointment calendar 60 days in advance and 30 days in advance of expiry.

Hi there,
I actually just received an email from our registrar that the domain has been restored, and I’ve reactivated it on your account. It’s already showing your mediatemple-hosted site for me, but as @timethief said, it can take up to 72 hours for the DNS records to propagate so it might not work for everyone immediately.
@timethief’s suggestion to make a note of your domain renewal date is a very good one. We send email reminders two months before the domain expires, and try to renew it a month before if automatic renewal is enabled. But with email providers implementing more aggressive spam filtering, and other automated filters like Gmail uses, there is always a chance you won’t receive those. And as your site is not hosted with WordPress.com, you won’t see the expiration notices we display in the WordPress.com dashboard either.

Ok excellent, thanks for all your help. All is working well this end, we’ll make sure it is renewed ahead next time. Oli
