Site Editor -feedback -questions

Hello there,
Many thanks for reaching back out.
I’d just like to recap and gut check what the issue may be here.
Are you saying that the archive page: https://aim2dchinabusinessnews.wordpress.com/ (where the posts are being displayed) are missing the latest two posts? If yes, you may need to refresh the browser cache.
Also…
Clearly the issue is with the index or archive page which only shows an excerpt.
The reuseable block toward the footer has no bearing on this as it is not shown in the excerpt. Are you looking to show the post content in its entirety, rather than just an excerpt?
Many thanks in advance.

Hi, for some reason I can’t see my original question posted here, but in short, NO!
Neither of your two hypothesis are what I am saying.Just curious, did you read the background to the question?
That might be more useful than me re-writing what has already gone down.I know it isn’t always possible to talk with fellow team mates in support, esp remote support, but @Kokkieh did a bit of work around the original question.
He is probably more up to speed as he has the advantage of prior knowledge~ -
Hello there,
Many thanks for getting back to me.
Ok I’ve taken a look at
– https://aim2dchinabusinessnews.wordpress.com/2022/07/08/xinjiang-taklamakan-desert-the-sea-of-death/
– https://aim2dchinabusinessnews.wordpress.com/2022/07/01/desert-train-with-a-difference/And I can see that these posts have a reusable block before the Read more tag, and this article:
Does not have that re-usable block. The perhaps could be the common denominator between these posts.
-
Exactly!
But perhaps not.
As I pointed out in my original, I also have a reusable block further down the page.So I suspect the issue is more granular.
Related to font size or position maybe because as you say it appears before the read more. So, which is it, the read more or reusable block?
How do I fix it please? -
Hello there,
So I suspect the issue is more granular.
So, which is it, the read more or reusable block?
How do I fix it please? It could very well be the combination of these two blocks in use specifically.
If you were to move the re-usable block to underneath the more block, this would confirm that.
Keeping the reusable block in that position or removing it from before the more block altogether may help to point to a fix.
-
Not sure I fully follow your logic, but it is very late and very, very hot.
I have been working on this most of the week.
I will pick this up again Monday, maybe.I am more inclined to think it is similar to the EMBED and RELATED POSTS issue, ie, Site issue and needs to be fixed in Site Editor. But again, that can wait.

Well, after a good rest and cooler weather that still does not make any sense to me.
Moving the reusable block outside the more block would simply return the archive / index page into a full post page.
And we have already established that this already shows the reusable block.
I don’t really see how that points to a fix.It just seems to raise the question as to if you read any of the thread leading up to this?
Same as your way off the mark comments re the EMBED block not showing.
I know you were trying to help but maybe skip any future questions from me.
I have lost confidence.OK, moving on.
@Kokkieh – I owe you a huge thanks.
It was your comment re the RELATED POSTS that solved it – I think.I’m not totally sure as last week my concentration was off; I found the INDEX/ ARCHIVE and now HOME pages all showed the same content and became befuddled.
At one point I was editing all 3 thinking I was just editing one .
Likewise the PAGE and SINGLE PAGE- I started editing the wrong one.
But taking a break cleared my head.I now believe the solution is to add the REUSABLE block into the Home Page SITE EDITOR much the same way as your solution for RELATED POSTS.
In Detail:
Select List view > query loop > post template > then highlight Post Excerpt – click on settings (3 dots) and set insert before.
From block option drop down, select REUSABLE BLOCKS > INTRO (in my case) and save.
Et voila! The small font intro block now appears afore every post in index view!
As anticipated.
At least it does at time of writing this.
I will know for sure tomorrow when my latest post is published, but for now, I am cautiously confident. So again, THANK YOU mate, you gave me the tools and knowledge to be able to ( eventually) figure it out. It’s been a good learning opportunity
I may have (most likely) messed up something else, but I will try to sort that out too.My only small issue now involves the feature image margin.
On Friday this was full width, my partner suggested it may look better with a small margin L * R.
Now she would like to see it sans margin – problem is I can’t find how or where I originally set it up.
All the “templates” are set to zero? Also, as you suggested in an earlier conversation I’ve added an image to the script that fails during load that MAY be contributing to my slow load time. You may need to blow the image up to see it clearly.
Just one last – repeat- question before we close this.
Do I correctly understand your earlier instruction re Blank Template:
IE: if I revert back to LEVIN, then select the “default content from the Blank Canvas demo.” it will, remove the style / formatting (CSS) but leave me the HTML – images and text in one piece?
I won’t end up with a totally blank site?
Bearing in mind I do not have a static page, but rather latest posts.Again – last time – THANK YOU!

Hi P, there’s a lot going on in this thread but I think you’re getting there. Pages and posts are content. Templates and themes are how that content gets displayed. The “Site Editor” edits templates and themes; it’s powerful but may not be necessary for your case except to make a specific change, like moving where the comments show.
IE: if I revert back to LEVIN, then select the “default content from the Blank Canvas demo.” it will, remove the style / formatting (CSS) but leave me the HTML – images and text in one piece?
If you switch back to Levin, it’s unlikely to offer to replace your home page to Blank Canvas. But regardless, if you see that message and choose to go ahead with switching out the content, your old content will still exist under https://wordpress.com/pages/drafts. If anything does get lost, you can copy and paste from that page if needed.

Hi there @supernovia, thx for the +ve vibes.
Yes, I was lost in space for a while, but it had been a very busy, long hot 10 days so my mind was fuzzed.
I actually saw / see Site Editor as a pseudo CSS, enabling me to set certain elements size, font, colour, position once, globally rather than each time I made a post. And that was exactly what I wanted.
So I am more than happy with it.
Thx too for clarification of BC transfer, and the wrinkle re https://wordpress.com/pages/drafts. I have switched themes in my early days of.org and lost content so that is good to know. I will try that later.
I still am not able to return Featured Image to full screen, if I can’t solve it by this weekend I will make that another question.
Meantime, thanx again – shall mark this one closed.
Cheers

I still am not able to return Featured Image to full screen, if I can’t solve it by this weekend I will make that another question.
I might have missed that one, sorry! If you want a full screen featured image, it should be an option in the cover block when you’re editing the template. I hope that helps.
If not, do start another thread with that gist in the title and we’ll go from there. Cheers!
-
Haha, Nope!
Been there, done that, bought the Tee shirt.I can recall setting it up thinking it was easy, in Site Editor ( and I am sure it was Featured Image block,) I set margins to 0 50 0 50 px and bingo.
Now that shows 0 0 0 0.
Anyway it is another busy week, will attack it again Friday.
Thx anyway.
Cheers
