Site Hacked

  • Unknown's avatar

I created my first WordPress account last Saturday, and I haven’t gone back in since then. When I tried to log on just now, I discovered that my username was changed and when I went to my page it said Hacked by DenJaka. I haven’t even created one post yet! Is there anything that can be done?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

I checked your account sandiacascade and your site at https://sandiacascade.wordpress.com/ and I don’t see any signs of the hacking you mentioned. Did that happen on a different account? If you can give me the username and/or a link to that site, I can investigate that for you.

That is because I initially set up a site on wordpress.com because I didn’t know there was a difference between wordpress.com and wordpress.org. So, there is also a wordpress.org page, which is the one that was hacked. The hacker changed my username to mayuyu and there is no way that I can see to change it back. Can the account just be deleted so I can start over? I only set it up less than a week ago and was following a tutorial on YouTube about how to set up your own page on WP, so there is nothing that I care about saving.

    Hi there,

WordPress.com staff only have access to manage sites and accounts here at WordPress.com. (Accounts and sites created with other website hosts are completely separate from WordPress.com.)

It looks like that domain and site were created using WordPress through HostGator, so you’ll need to get in touch directly with HostGator support for more help with that site.

Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)

yes, i contacted HostGator, too. They did some kind of automated check and that was it. They said they didn’t find anything amiss, but you can see as plain as day on my site “Hacked by so-and-so” and my username was altered. I told them the problem hasn’t been solved, but they haven’t responded since.

That site at http://sandiacascade.com/ is not hosted by WordPress.COM and we cannot help you. It’s a wordpress.ORG install hosted by Hostgator and we cannot help you with it here. You are posting to the wrong support forum and you need to cvontct Hostgator support http://support.hostgator.com/ like rachelmcr told you to do please.

WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums. Read the differences here http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG account, then click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, https://wordpress.org/support/register.php so you can post to the support forums there.

Hi sandiacascade, I got the same problem with the same hack. How much time took to fix that? in Hostgator they told you some reason about this?

    Cheers!

Having the same problem with CrazyIsHowIRoll.com This is my my friends blog….I have been a blogger 9 yrs. Never hacked she is after 1 week. How do we fix it? Hostgator is useless

@pastoman, @mamakautz both @timethief and @rachelmcr have explained that we’re powerless to do anything via this forum, as your sites are not hosted on WordPress.com …

Within that – one of my self-hosted sites was hacked and DDOS attacked on Greengeeks, our solution was to move the site onto DigitalOcean and install some much better and harder security ourselves. This probably isn’t a solution for someone without tech skills, so my suggestion would be to switch to a different host – perhaps DreamHost which I’ve heard good reports of or Bluehost which I seem to remember being recommended for WordPress sites … and once you’ve done that, do some research into security plugins, and use plugins to make the site more secure.

If you’re planning to stay with Hostgator, you need to persist with them, we can’t as already explained help you with this problem here as your sites are not hosted here.

    Cheers

    Don Charisma

We cannot provide support for CrazyIsHowIRoll.com as it is not hosted here. You are posting to the wrong support forum.

  • I’ll close this thread since these sites are self-managed, individual WordPress installations that we cannot access or protect through our services.*

But here is a WordPress.org article that may help:
    https://codex.wordpress.org/FAQ_My_site_was_hacked

If you aren’t comfortable managing that on your own, please work with your host or a contractor as needed, or reach out to the WordPress.org community:

    Best wishes!

    * unless you’re using VaultPress security — in which case you’d contact support there anyhow.
