Site hacked at Bluehost/down/trying to recover
-
Help! My site was hacked – Bluehost took it offline, and I am now trying to recover what I can and migrate/rebuild the site in SquareSpace. Bluehost set up a giant 25GB .tar file for me – SS requires max 200MB xml files. What can I do? If this is complicated, where can I hire someone to help? Thanks so much.
I don’t have a site with WordPress.com yet

Hi @longhaulpro, these are the forums for sites hosted here at WordPress.com, but perhaps we can point you in the right direction.
Squarespace probably wants you to make an XML file through Dashboard > Tools > Export. That won’t contain your images, so your site will need to be online while you import — which likely means you’ll need to get your site to a clean state first.
You might ask your host if they can restore a clean backup, then take care to secure your site so it’s safe. This article goes over several options for cleaning the site, then shares ways to secure it:
Once you’ve got that, you can export as you like. Or, armed with knowledge, you may find it easier to just keep your site secured rather than redoing it elsewhere. And of course, you’d be welcome to host here if you prefer, as we manage security, spam, and backups, and provide direct support with our Pro plan. I believe you’d still need to start with a clean site for that to work, but you we’d handle the security after that.
Cheers!
