Site Hacked with ‘bubbleGUM’ Script

  • Unknown's avatar

One of my news posters just called me because an article she was posting on had a bunch of weird links on it when she previewed it. I went into it and looked at it and in the HTML view you can see a script for a bubbleGUM script. It’s posting a whole bunch of spam stuff/links.

I’ve taken a screen shot, which you can see here, where I’ve highlighted the text.

I tried to delete it but it keeps refreshing.

Can someone please help me? My site has a lot of traffic and I really need to get rid of this. When I get home tonight I’ll check my files to see if it was somehow loaded up to my site files. But until then, if anyone can give me any idea what this might be, I’d really appreciate it.

    Thanks!

Well, the correct term is “cracked” (hackers are the good guys actually).

You are self-hosted wordpress, so you need to head over to http://worpress.ORG/support/ as that is where self-hosted wordpress blogs are supported. After getting things cleaned up, you really need to upgrade to the latest version of wordpress. You are on 2.7 and 2.7 has some security issues.

Get things cleaned up first though.
