Site header is corrupted (reduced in size)
-
It happens just several minutes ago. Clearing the cache of browser and PC reloading did not help. It affected just https://shinbopedia.wordpress.com/ site, my another site https://sjohnru.wordpress.com/ looks fine.
Win10 the latest revision, Chrome the latest revision.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I have also tested my site copy from Archive.org http://web.archive.org/web/20181128182030/https://shinbopedia.wordpress.com/
The same problem. -
Hi there,
Do you mean your site’s title, becasue I don’t see anything wrong with it. Can you please send me a screenshot of what you’re seeing and explain what you should see instead?
You can quickly grab a screenshot with https://snipboard.io/
-
The entire header area has shrunk in size (height). The title itself is the same size as before.
Screenshot of the top part with my notes: top-screenshot.
1. These are the legs of this girl: girl-silhouette. She should be fully visible.
2. It should be a smooth gradient. The sidebar background image sidebar-bg should be aligned with the plain gray area in the center of the main background image main-bg.
I composed a rough picture as it was before:
background-composition.Screenshot as you instructed me: screenshot.

Thanks for all the details, from what I can see that image was added via code to the Text widget. You may want to rewrite the HTML there:
style="position:absolute;left:650px;top:-310px;I can also recommend adding it directly to the custom HTML widget instead.
Please also note that the theme you’re using has been already retired so it may not be working correctly with the newest browsers’ versions and to alter the theme’s CSS you’d need to upgrade at least to plan Premium.
You’re welcome to change your theme to a newer one, however, bear in mind that once you do that, it will not be possible to switch back to the current (retired) theme.
-
> You may want to rewrite the HTML there
I cannot, because the new header size is too small. It also looks ugly and doesn’t line up the background as I explained in point 2.
> it may not be working correctly with the newest browsers’ versions
No. The problem is not with the browser. I have just tested the problem in different browsers including mobile and all them look the same.
> You’re welcome to change your theme to a newer one
I cannot. The site was developed for 6 years and its content is closely tied to the theme.
> you’d need to upgrade at least to plan Premium
I cannot, because it requires changing the internet domain, but the anime community prefers wordpress.com. I’ll just lose my readers.
-
You do get a free custom domain with the plan upgrade, but you don’t have to use it, your site can stay as https://shinbopedia.wordpress.com/
I do strongly recommend upgrading your theme though. It hasn’t been updated (and that includes any bug or compatibility fixes for modern browsers and mobile devices) since 2011.
Changing your theme is very safe, it doesn’t affect your content. The most you’d have to do is spend a minute or two re-positioning your widgets and menu items. Some folks even do it monthly just for fun.

Hi Macmanx, thanks for your reply.
> You do get a free custom domain with the plan upgrade, but you don’t have to use it
Oh thanks, this information is new to me. Several years ago I tried to upgrade to a paid account and was unable to get through the custom domain stage. Then I discovered *somewhere* that it was impossible.
Unfortunately, I’m not sure if custom CSS will help me solve this problem.
> Changing your theme is very safe, it doesn’t affect your content.
It depends on what you consider “content”. Yes, it doesn’t change letters to numbers, but the custom formatting should look completely different (and completely ugly). And I use a lot of custom formatting. Just take a look at https://shinbopedia.wordpress.com/article/article-akiyuki-shinbo-biography/. Do you believe that if I move on to another theme, it will be somehow good? I tried to find something acceptable this morning. Bad luck.
But-but-but there is light in the tunnel. I found a few Greyzed-based and they all look ok. For example, https://greyzeddemo.wordpress.com/ and https://araey.wordpress.com/.
So, most likely, the problem is the incompatibility of my code with the Greyzed theme. In fact, I use workarounds from time to time to fix minor clashes.
I am currently going to remove all my widgets and menus from my site to see if that solves the problem. It will take some time because it contains a lot of code and options. I’m not going to lose them.

After taking a closer look at the HTML that makes up your post, I believe you are correct in this case. So from that standpoint your content would be more of a challenge than we normally see in other theme switches.
However, one thing you can do is “preview” your content while under a different theme. This is totally safe as you do not “switch” to another theme at all, it is more like a preview. You can see how to do this in the video I recorded at this link: https://d.pr/v/LBahQr
But ultimately because you appear to have “hard-coded” the layout of your content in such a way that is very specific to the Greyzed theme, that formatting may need to be undone to work with another theme.

> So from that standpoint your content would be more of a challenge than we normally see in other theme switches.
I could tell you more. You probably know that if you use the “Translate to English” option in your Chrome it completely messes up the formatting. This problem does not affect my page. This is no coincidence. And if you are reading an English translation, then it is in good English. This is also no coincidence, the Russian text is composed in such a way that it can be translated into good English.
Ok, now I provide perfectly clean page https://shinbopedia.wordpress.com/empty-page/ with no custom widgets, with no menu and with no content. But the problem I described above still persists.
So the problem is not related to the retired theme as your staff told me. Because https://greyzeddemo.wordpress.com/ and https://araey.wordpress.com/ look fine, but my site doesn’t. Please, please fix the error related to my site.
-
Wow, it looks like you have put a lot of work in the design of your site!
I’m afraid, however, that we won’t be able to help you in this case. As we mentioned, the theme you’re using has been retired which means no bugs or other theme issues will be fixed. Also, custom code is out of the scope of our support.
If you want to invesitgate this a bit more, the site greyzeddemo.wordpress.com seems to be displaying correctly, while araey.wordpress.com has the same issue – you can have a look at the setup of both sites and compare the differences. One thing that stands out is that on araey.wordpress.com you also have a custom image in the sidebar. -
> Wow, it looks like you have put a lot of work in the design of your site!
Oh, thank you. <span style=”font-size:110%;font-style:italic;font-weight:bold;”>㋡</span>
> Also, custom code is out of the scope of our support.
As I mentioned, I prepared a clean test page without any custom formatting https://shinbopedia.wordpress.com/empty-page/. However, the bug manifests itself in this too. So the problem is not with my code.
> while araey.wordpress.com has the same issue
No, it is not. Something is wrong only with my website.
> One thing that stands out is that on araey.wordpress.com you also have a custom image in the sidebar.
No, there is absolutely no my own code on the test page. However, the problem still persists.
> I’m afraid, however, that we won’t be able to help you in this case.
That is a pity. I am currently thinking about moving my site to the Blogger, they support the same Greyzed theme.
-
Sorry to hear it.
You’d be welcome to switch themes. I also noticed the issue seems only to happen when ads are on the page, so it’s possible just upgrading to turn those off will resolve the issues as well.
But if you need to move the site, we understand.
