Site Importer returns "can't find database" error

    When I try to use the WordPress importer plugin to migrate my WordPress.com site to a self-hosted site, I get the result, “Error establishing a database connection.”

    Is that simply a default error message? I’m wondering if this is actually an issue with file size – my six XML files, as provided by WordPress.com, are each over 2mb – tech support at hosting company is offline so I can’t ask them about file size caps until tomorrow morning.

    More to the point, has anyone else seen this error while migrating a WordPress-hosted site to self-hosted and if so, what’s the fix?

    Based on the error I’d say there’s something wrong with the database of your self-hosted site, but you’ll need to ask the users in the self-hosted forums about the best way to fix that. WordPress.com does not work the same as self-hosted WordPress in this regard, so I have no idea about exactly what’s causing this or how to fix it.
