Site Improvement and help, please
-
It has been a year or so for Inspiration Point. :) I have been using the current Twenty-Ten theme, for quite awhile. I am thinking it’s time for some site improvements. Namely, I’d like to know what theme currently offered by WordPress.com would be a good alternative for a site dedicated to providing encouraging and inspirational stories that I’ve written.
For one thing, I’d like to keep it, clean and make use menu system that I’m currently using. I’ve notice many are using this and the customizable background. Should I keep the current header image or change it? As for fonts, I would prefer that they’d be a bit heavy and easy on the eyes. I’m not a fan of skinny fonts like Verdana but I do like Arial black rounded. I’m seeking a somewhat casual look for the typeface.
As for widget, what improvements should I make? What can be added or dropped? The one RSS feed (Verse of the day) is a keeper and it doesn’t detract from the main site. I’d like to better enable visitors to subscribe to my blog, so they can get updates when I post a new story. It would save me, the headache of a mass mailing list. Any ideas? I do have a button but it seems rarely used or perhaps invisible to the visitor.
Now for the copyright info issue. When I started, I was not concerned about the content and why should I be? The site was just beginning and I had to work on site promotion. I am aware that my audience those who already are Christians and those who may bee seeking or would appreciate my stories of overcoming. There may be others that I’m not aware of.
However, I am not opposed to my stories appearing in a church bulletin, non profit newsletter or some other such places. I’d love it. Of course, I do want to be given appropriate credit and the readers to know where they can read more stories.
I created a page with my copyright info and linked it to the current menu and its now available. Thanks air. You hit the nail on the head. It was in Draft not Published. Still, I ask this question. Would it have been better for the copyright info to be on the About page? or what?

Can someone close this topic? I realize that I’m dumping too much and forgot the link. Parts have already been resolved. I was just looking for theme recommendation.

Re: the copyright notice
Place the link to the static your created page in a text widget and display it in your sidebar.Re: subscriptions
As well as offering an RSS Feed which you already have done you can set up either one of these.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/blog-subscriptions/
This is best for those who intend to have their blogs remain free hosted by wordpress.com as there is no way to export that I’m aware of in the event you move the blog content to a wordpress.ORG install and paid web hosting.http://en.support.wordpress.com/tag/feedburner/
Best for those who intend to move their wordpress.com blog content into a self hosted wordpress.ORG install. Here’s a post you can use to evaluate your own blog > http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2011/01/28/12-step-blog-evaluation/

If you wish you can enter the original post you made when you created this thread and mark the thread “resolved”.

TimeThief,
It’s fine. I had thought that I overloaded or confused everyone with what I was asking. Looked like you untangled things.
1. Copyright page. I did just that. I used the Text box widget and placed a brief text and link in it. Got rid of the Copyright menu item. Tested and it works. Yes, the page is published. So, I should keep a separate static page for my copyright information.
2. Blog Subscription – I am actually using that widget. Sadly, it was buried down on the bottom of the sidebar. It was after the two widget showing the various posts, archive and etc. I moved it towards the top. It’s just below the RSS Feed. Should make things easier.
3. I’ll go read your post about site evaluation and will consider how to transition over to a new theme.
