Site installed at wrong directory level?
-
I have a new site that I’m setting up
Instead of viewing the site from SITENAME.com (which is my desire), you can only see the site from SITENAME.com/blog
I want my viewers to see my site from SITENAME.com
Clues?
Thanks!!

I suspect that you’re self-hosting your blog, using the WordPress.org software. If this is the case, you really need the WordPress.org support forum which you can find at:
This support forum is for users of the multi-user WordPress.com software, and the two are very different. Check out this link for information on the differences.

Hi. It sounds as if you’re self-hosted. If so, you’ll need to get help at:
The multi-user software here at wordpress.com is very different and many, if not most, of us are in the dark about the self-hosted version.

If you have a wordpress.com blog then the url will be like this example: http://myblog.wordpress.com
The only way that url can be changed is through the purchase of a domain and domain mapping
http://faq.wordpress.com/2005/10/05/can-you-change-my-username/
http://faq.wordpress.com/category/domain-mapping/However, if you have w wordpress.org “powered by wordpress” installation and are self hosting then you are in the wrong forum. We run on different software and will not be able to help you here. In that case the correct forum link is http://wordpress.org/support/

Actually, When a site is SITENAME.com/blog, it means that you are using a sub-directory. If you want your blog to be located at blog.SITENAME.com, then you would need to create a sub-DOMAIN, by going to your hosting provider settings. If you want your blog to be at SITENAME.com however, your main HTML file needs to be renamed index, which at the moment sounds like your html file you created using wordpress.org software was automatically named “blog”. Which makes sense seeing as how it IS a blog. BUT you just need your html file to be renamed “index” and when people go to SITENAME.com….it should be right there.
coolies!
