  • Hi there,

Apologies, but we can’t help with your issue directly because we don’t host contrabandevents.com on our WordPress.com managed hosting.

To explain, we are a fully managed hosting provider and use a custom server environment that is optimized for WordPress, provides built-in security and performance improvements, as well as in-house support for your site questions. You can learn more about the performance and security benefits of our managed hosting here: https://wordpress.com/hosting/

Because of the way we’ve optimized our service, we also use a customized version of WordPress that is different (under the hood) from what you use at your current provider. As a result we are not able to offer backups and historical data for sites hosted elsewhere. Of course, we would love to host your site here, where we we are happy to help further. But as it stands now, we can’t assist.

The good news is that your hosting provider may be able to help in this instance since the are usually responsible for managing backups for sites they host. I recommend contacting your current provider for further assistance since they are in the best position to help.

After you have restored your site at your current provider to normal working order, you are welcome to migrate your site to our WordPress.com managed hosting by using this plugin.

    Hello.

The site was run and controlled by WordPress though, just under the URL https://www.contrabandevents.com/wp-login

Since the crash, I can’t login or access a WordPress recovery page.

Do you have a support live chat or phone number so that I can resolve this please?

  • Hi there,

As @staff-totoro mentioned, unfortunately, we cannot assist because https://www.contrabandevents.com/ is not on WordPress.com but is a self-hosted WordPress.org site.

    To clarify:

    • WordPress.com is a managed host platform that offers WordPress in a pre-customized server environment already set up for you to build your site. Hosting with WordPress.com is free, and the server, security, updates, and site optimization are all handled by us. We offer free and paid plans that provide additional features for your site based on your needs (plugins, custom themes, etc). You also have access to professional assistance via Happiness Engineers to address any issues you encounter.
    • WordPress.org is a self-hosted platform, meaning you download the WordPress software and install it on a web server from a host of your choosing (Go Daddy, Bluehost, Hostgator, etc.). You have to pay the host when you’re self-hosting, and the server, security, updates, and site optimization are all handled by you. This gives you more flexibility and control of your plugins, themes, and code, but also more responsibility to ensure those things are operating correctly.

Our support page dives more into the differences:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

We welcome you to consider moving your site to WordPress.com, as we’d love to further help you. However, since you’re on a self-hosted platform, we do not have direct access to your account and therefore can’t directly address your issue.

I recommend contacting your site host, as they would be better positioned to assist you since they have access to your account. Also, the open-source forum community is always available and prepared to help users with self-hosted sites:

    Hope this helps.
