Site is not exporting properly

Good Afternoon,
I keep exporting my site; however, it does not seem to export everything properly. When I import it to my other wordpress account it imports all my files but the overall look of the website is incorrect. I tried applying my theme and it still did not work. I am trying to transfer it from a wordpress.com to a wordpress.org. With that being said, I see I can do the ‘guided transfer’. I will be happy to pay for the guided transfer if I know it will implement my site exactly the way I have it on wordpress.com. I currently have a free theme with no plugins. Please let me know if the guided transfer will work 100% or if there are other ways to import the site properly. Thank you so much!

Themes cannot be exported and/or transferred so do be clear on that. The export files do not contain themes.
WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, support docs and support forums, run different theme versions of themes with the same names, and many people get confused about the two. With that being said, I see I can do the ‘guided transfer’. I will be happy to pay for the guided transfer if I know it will implement my site exactly the way I have it on wordpress.com.

Do note that there is a WordPress.ORG version of the Gateway theme https://wordpress.org/themes/gateway/.

Thank you for your haste response. However, does this mean that the guided transfer will not work for what I’m trying to do? Or once I do the guided transfer I will have to rebuilt the site completely? Or does this mean that the guided transfer will work for me?

Hi @craflainc, we don’t export theme settings currently, as @timethief stated.
But if you choose a compatible host, the guided transfer team would export and import your site, install the same theme (you can download the version for WordPress.com here), and reconfigure its settings for you. They would also provide several days of support as you learn the ropes of managing your own installation, since there’s no formal support for WordPress.org installations.

I am sorry for my late response and I truly appreciate your guidance. Unfortunately I am still very confused as I still have not gotten a clear answer. From what I understand, if I do a guided transfer from wordpress.com to wordpress.org, my site as it currently stands, will be transferred and the wordpress engineer will install the wordpress.org gateway version of theme and any additional plugins in order for the site to work effectively. I just am not getting a straightforward answer. If I do the guided transfer will my site look the same as it stands or will it operate/look differently than it does now? I see the guided transfer link and it explains there should be no discrepancies but based on the responses, it seems there is not a definitive answer. I just need to know, if I look at my site in wordpress.com currently, and do the guided transfer (being that I did not install plugins, I did not use a premium theme), will it or will it not look the same once the guided transfer is complete? Please let me know. Thank you so much

@craflainc, if you get a guided transfer, staff takes care of all of these steps for you and provides support while you adjust to managing your own installation. Since your theme doesn’t require special licensing, yes, they would install it for you at your new host and set it up as close to your current setup as possible. It would look more or less the same.
Without a guided transfer, you do those steps on your own and will need to work through any issues you run into. It’s honestly not that bad, but it does take time. That’s why we offer transfers as a service.
