Hi, I’d like to start a blog with my legal name, but it says the domain is reserved. Is there a way to override this? Thanks.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Reserved domain names are domain names that the central registry has held back from general registration. This means that they are not available to register.

It may be auctioned off to the highest bidder. It totally depends on registry.

More information can be found at

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions.
    Thanks!

  • Hi there,

If you mean the WordPress.com address you want is reserved, then no, you won’t be able to use it. Reserved WordPress.com addresses can only be created by the account that has the matching username, and we cannot reassign a reserved URL to another account.

Always a good idea to first make sure exactly what a user is speaking about. And in this case they provided a free address including their real name and a bunch of random numbers. If you strip out the numbers and actually visit alexstocksdale.wordpress.com you’ll see a reserved notice there.

It is highly unlikely that anyone’s full name would be reserved at any domain registry. First names, sure; last names, in very specific cases. Full names? Only if you share your full name with someone who is exceptionally famous, someone who works for the registry, or someone to whom the registry plan to gift the domain for some reason. Even then it’s still unlikely.
