Site is unstable after move to cust domain-Domain prov. sd. it's WP hosting iss

I had Network Solutions help me point the jonathanalter.com domain to the WP.com site I developed, but it has been 24 hours, and I am getting random error pages, saying that the site might be temp. down, or that “your connection is not private”, with the red “Not secure” and the https, with a line through it.
How do I deal with this, given that no WP people can be reached by phone and the Chat is useless?
Thanks,

Hi Steve,
Your domain jonathanalter.com is now pointing correctly to WordPress.com and it’s using a secured connection (HTTPS).
If you’re still unable to load your site correctly you can notify the Support staff by adding the tag modlook to the right sidebar of this topic.

Thanks for the reassurance, but in addition to the error messages, which show when accessing through the WP MySites page (The webpage at https://jonathanalter.com/?iframe=true&theme_preview=true&frame-nonce=27a540e9f2&cachebust=0 might be temporarily down or it may have moved…), I am somehow pulling up the Squarespace old version of the site. See Media Library.
I have asked the site-owner if he would be willing to cancel his Squarespace subscription and delete the site, in order to completely disable it. Any thoughts on that?
This sucks, that it has been so unstable that it pulls up the old site…3 days after the domain redirection.
Your help resolving this would be greatly appreciated.
Steve

Hi @skellermwd1, this is a propagation issue. While DNS usually takes just a few hours to propagate, I’ve seen it take a few days if DNS data is stuck somewhere.
The old data could be coming from:
– your browser
– your computer (even a hosts file on your computer if you’ve ever used those)
– your modem / router
– your ISP
– their ISP
and so on.
Personally when mine has been stuck like that, I shut down the computer (turning it off completely), then unplug power on my router for about 90 seconds before restarting the router and letting it boot up all the way, then restarting the computer. If you do that and it continues to not work, let us know and we’ll have you try some things at the command prompt.

I tried the steps you mentioned twice, Supernovia, the second time because I thought I had not given enough time for the router to “boot all the way up”(?), and I still get the not private message, and the frowny icon with the “site may be temp. down.”
I cannot even get the site to show up on my Macbook Air. The “not private” message appears to be generated by Chrome. Just tried Safari, and it still accesses the Squarespace version.
Can someone help me redo the domain mapping, if that is what it is going to take?
Thanks,

@skellermwd1 redoing the domain mapping would only make the site go down for everyone else.
Chrome is probably showing you the “not secure” thing because it’s trying to access https://jonathanalter.com (which likely wouldn’t work at SquareSpace; you could test in Safari to confirm.)
Open terminal and type the following command:
nslookup jonathanalter.com
Let me know what returns. Also, are you on a personal connection or are you in an office? Are you able to call your ISP?
