If you changed your theme, you did not delete your whole website. It is typical that some of the content may not be visible after a theme change.
You can’t lose pages or posts or images, but you can lose visibility to some content until you change the new theme’s default settings. You may need to go through the Customizer to rebuild or adjust menus and (re)assign a static home page to make content visible again.
Compatibility between some themes is better than others, so what happens is not exactly the same for all theme switches.
Yes, you can switch back to your prior theme, but that will not automatically restore the appearance of the site. If you were using something other than the default Customizer settings, you will need to make those settings changes again to make the site look like it was before the theme switch.
