Site Lock and SSL

  • Unknown's avatar

I have a GoDaddy domain and website. I want to add a blog. GoDaddy says that I need something called Sitelock and something called SSL. Apparently, these applications protect the site from being hacked, viruses etc. There is a monthly subscription (~$15 per mo).
What are these services actually providing? Why do I need it now that I am creating a WordPress blog?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

Your GoDaddy site is not connected to us in any way, but is completely separate and using the WordPress.ORG software, not WordPress.com.

That said, it’s your choice if you want SSL or not. It is better to have SSL, as it means all traffic to your site is encrypted. In other words, it won’t be possible for someone to spy on you or other people who visit your site and steal their information.

On WordPress.com you get SSL for free, but if your site is with GoDaddy you will either need to pay them for SSL, or you can use a service like Cloudflare to add SSL to your site for free.

For more help with this, please ask in the WordPress.org forums as the users there will know better how this works.

Thank you. Very good info. I’ll try WordPress.org forum.
