Site Lockout Norification

Hi, Over the past few days I’ve had numerous emails saying my account has been locked out for a few minutes due to too many bad log in attempts which, when I do an IP lookup, look like they are coming from Ukraine, India and Africa. So far, the lockouts have had no effect on my usage and I’ve changed my password to a more detailed one. Should I be worried and is there anything that will prevent these attempts? Thanks

  • Hi –

You’ve done the right thing to update your account password on WordPress.com. I’d also highly suggest that you enable 2 factor authentication on both your WordPress.com and your email accounts.

Read through this page, and find the 2 factor authentication details at the bottom: https://en.support.wordpress.com/selecting-a-strong-password/#additional-tips-for-both-methods

There’s no way to prevent someone else from trying to access any of your online accounts, so strong passwords and security steps are the best way forward.
